Michael Landon was the youngest son in Bonanza, it was well before Little House on the Prairie.

Here's a photo of him as Little Joe

I think he did that on purpose since Michael Landon played in both.

All I really know is that shortly after Ben quit runnin the Ponderosa, Lil Joe wound up broke livin in a shanty strugglin to get by in the middle of the prairie.

Sometime after all that, I had an opportunity to visit Laura Ingals homes, the original lil one room cabin not too many miles from where her later life home was. She had obviously prospered considerably over the years.

Getting back on the term "homestead" - according to my dictionary, "homestead - A house, esp a farmhouse, with adjoining buildings and land. To claim and settle farmland." Therefore going by the defined term of "homestead" you need a house, with land and outbuildings.

But when you try to define "homesteading" now you're opening up to each and everyone's philosophy as to it's personal meaning. Sorta like that story about the blind men discribing an elephant - 9 blind men with 9 different discriptions of the elephant. All are right in their own world as to what they believe to be..........
