How beautiful. I love the area, the land, and the layout of the house!

That is beautiful - good for you.

It's in the Lanark Highlands west of Ottawa. Originally, this hamlet and other small communities in the area were created and served by the since defunct Kingston-Pembroke train line (which operated from the late 1800's to the 1950's I believe). A number of small industries (mines, lumber mills, etc.) popped up along the way, but they eventually dried up, and then the railway was closed down. So these small villages and hamlets have stayed, nestled in the lovely wooded area where lakes and rivers abound. Roads were eventually built to link up these isolated settlements to the main roads.

I was glad to find this place so close to the city, and yet so quiet and out of the beaten path.

actually a 70 minute commute might prove to not be that big a deal if you wanted to move there permanently..i've communted for an hour to a couple of jobs in the past..in winter it can be a bit treacherous..but otherwise it was not a big deal..

your new little place is lovely..it probably was built really well..i like the wrap around porch..on the front/side..and i think it is ideal..so much to offer

Actually, I work 30 minutes in the opposite direction, so my commute would be more like 1h40m, which is way more than I am prepared to do (and it would be worse at rush hour, as everyone living west of the city is trying to get into the downtown core). However, for me work will likely come to an end in a couple of years, and the need to commute will disappear.

Looking forward to settling into the place, exploring the house and the grounds in more detail. I'm starting to look for furniture to help populate the place (it comes with some furniture to start with), and have bought yesterday a new scythe to help me tame some of the tall grass and weeds on some parts of the property. Let the fun begin indeed!
