Yep, I once drove 5 hrs. to pick up a horse, literally right after I got off the phone I jumped in the truck and headed that way, I told even told 'em I was on my way and when about I'd get there, and by the time I got there they'd sold him. So that was 10 hrs for nothin, aint nothin makes ya madder then that, huh? Or when your sellin somethin and folks say they'll come over later and ya set around all day waitin, that gripes my ass to. Oh well, most folks nowadays don't seem to have the sence God gave a goose anyhow.

I think a lot of people are so used to dealing with scum that they don't know how they are supposed to interact with regular people. How many people here are saying that the norm is for people to not show up so rude behavior is now acceptable? I've seen some of everything on craigslist (and freecycle) and I still expect people to show consideration for others.

I totally agree with the concept that the first person at your door with money in hand gets the item. But if that is the way you are going to do things, shouldn't everyone involved know? I think it is very rude to not inform a potential buyer that you may sell the item to someone else if they get there sooner with the money. If you take enough time to set up a time and place to meet with a buyer, then you should certainly have enough time to tell them that you have other potential buyers too.

A seller shouldn't have to hold an item indefinitely, and I don't think that the OP expected that either. They just expected to be informed if there was the possibility that the item in question would be sold before they arrived.

I wasted half a day last week driving over an hour one way to buy a 200 t-posts.

I called the fellow, made the deal for the next morning. Next morning I called to confirm I'd be there. I had to leave a message.

Just before I got there I called again and got him. He said he had sold them. I said I'm right down the road from you, are they gone yet? Nope, but the other buyer would be there in 30 minutes.

He claimed he had not checked his messages and thought I was a no show, but he had to keep his word to the second person that wanted them. Didn't matter that I would be there before the second buyer showed up.

I was pretty disgusted, and out gas money and time.

My time isn't free either. If I make a deal I will stick to it, even if someone offers more money. If you say you're going to show up on X day, at X time, I expect you to be there.
I might wait an hour or two after, if you don't I consider the deal to be off.

I'm not sure I trust Craigs list. The bartering & selling is a good idea. Yet I wonder about giving my address to stranger's. I mean who's gonna show up on your doorstep?
Mother Theresa or jeffrey dommer? Or some-one looking to case the place? & the entrance fee is a pitance to what they can haul away.
If I sold on Craigs list, or used Free-cycle, I would defenitely arrange a meeting location away from the house

That was just NOT right!
I get calls all the time on my pups and if there is an appointment made (and they were approved to get a pup)then that person get the first option on that pup.
I have had others call and say they would give me more but I always tell them to call back to see if it is still here.

I had an individual on here committ to buying 6 pigs from me and after I saved them for him he will not even reply to my e-mails or PMs to tell me that he does not want them. I know he has been on here almost daily so he doesn't have the respect to reply. They are up for sale again. So money talks for most. John

I'd send a PM to one of the mods on the Barter Board and let them know about the situation.
