Yes, they aren't "cheap". There is a older, used hay baler (new holland I think) up the road for sale....they want $5,000 for it. This is why we can't afford to put up on our hay. Maybe I should just buy a couple of scythes (?) and put the older boys to work...get some of that grocery money I spend on them back. j/k

A heavy tiller has some other uses than gardening. The "buckets" or front-end-loaders that one can get for smaller tractors don't usually have the "umph" to dig dirt even though they can lift it. When we wanted to do a little "earth-moving" we would first till the part we wanted to dig, and the the loader would handle it easily.
