You sir are being a troll.

Its still a free country for the most part, people can spend their dollars how they see fit. If they want to stock up on guns and ammo, its their right.

This topic (sort of) was in another thread about shortages. Personaly I just haven't been seeing shortages like this, not even in ammo. I was just at Cabela's this weekend and was looking at ammo. Had plenty of everything that I needed, which included 9mm, 357/38 special, .22, .308 and a few more calibers all the way up to .405. Of course, since I was there I did stock up on a few boxes of this and that, including some reloading supplies, which I believe is more important that factory loads over the long haul.

We have no large stores like that around for many miles.
Our smaller suppliers sell out as fast as they can order.

Now is a good time to mention how great it is to be able to make your own ammunition. I spent last Friday afternoon in the garage melting down wheelweights I got from my local tire store and casting it into 800 9mm and .357 bullets. I'll get them loaded into finished ammo shortly. Uh-oh, I just realized I forgot to put serial numbers on the bullets.

I can make cast lead bullets for all my pistols, revolvers, and several hunting rifles. I am also learning how to make jacketed bullets out of recycled cases picked off the ground. Here's a question for you. If I shoot someone with a .357 bullet made from a .380 auto case, will the shooter who bought the .380 auto ammo be brought in for questioning?

Depends on where you are. You can buy almost any ammo at WalMarts around here.

There was a piece on this very subject last night on the local 6 o'clock news. Showed folks snatching up ammo like crazy.

Maybe because this is a friendly forum where we can all discuss these ideas, but here on the home front I tend to keep a friendly, but calculated, low profile as to what I have stored up, how many and what kind of guns I have, and how much ammunition I keep on hand. As in your post about storing up food, you are the only person who can make the plan that best suits you and your level of perceived threat. In my area, for example, I would have to worry more about someone setting up a meth waste dump on the back of my property, but I don’t think I will be set upon by hungry zombies(not sure just what is a zombie, for that matter…) I go to the gun shop about every two weeks and check the ammo supplies I need--so far, there is ample, and I would not be really wild about thousands of rounds going up in a home fire.

And, I think you should know the current gun laws and regs in your area. You might get by with going out in your garden at night and killing someone attempting to pilfer your tomatoes, but maybe not. You should make darned sure, first….. I do a few crazy Ivans each year, though, out in the back of the woods. That way, anybody close enough to hear the practice shooting will get a subtle message. I really believe that it is better to be quietly, smartly prepared that to fly the rebel flag on the ramparts of my fortress. (Oooh, sounds like spy talk, huh? Or, speak softly and carry a loaded twelve gauge))

http://gun-deals.com/ammo.php?caliber=5.45x39

I check this site when purchasing online ammo... updated pretty regularly, for the best deals.

Everything's available, if you know where to look, and have money. Back in January, I was balking at 28c/round for 7.62x39, although I bought a case... got two spam cans for 22c/round at the same time... Now, the 28c is a great price, if you can find any for that much.

My cash cow has dried up, or I'd'a bought several more cases...

You cannot get too much ammo.

Anyone holding out for better prices is smoking funny weeds... it ain't going to get any better... WYSIWYG... the higher prices today will be the lowest price you can find later.

The only thing that I could see making things better, and lowering prices, is for President Zero, Barney Frank, Nancy P. all come out publically saying they love their AK-47s, their high capacity Glock 21's, Springfield Arms xd-40s, etc.... and going out in the countryside and show us how much they love them... to see them actually loading their magazines, and blasting away at cardboard cutouts of Rush! (Bush woulda blasted at Osama!.... Rush is more of an enemy to the left than Osama is) And, that they're giving tax breaks on any ammo purchases over a case... they're closing down all of the import hassles on Russian ammo, and repealing Clintons complete ban on all chinese firearms and ammo.

Of course, I'd more expect to see that trio eating live babies on the telly, than to come out and embrace wholeheartedly the second amendment, and showing us how much they love their firearms. Dianne Feinstein with her streetsweeper, ah what a sight! To see that, I'd give away half my supplies!

The only thing wrong about"Thousands" of rounds in a house fire is the loss of otherwise good ammunition. When ammo cooks off the pressure goes in all directions. Unlike when fired in a gun where the pressure is directional. i.e. down the barrel. While it is disconcerting for fire fighters, there is little actual danger. (Not so for cans of black powder or reloading powder). I have been struck many times by rifle and pistol ammunition that "cooked off" , in boxes, not firearms, during firefighting operations and never even had a bruise.

Make sure your not in violation of insurance policy!! Some policies restrict the amount of ammo. Also make sure your not limited by your local, city, county regulations.
