I reuse some commercial jars with a button top, like the ones salsa comes in. They reseal well. I never had a jar break or a lid not stay sealed. Even my amish nieghbors are doing it, as they have 12 children and havent enough jars. dont reuse mayonase or pickle type, they are too thin and break. But you can reuse any type with thick glass and a button top. the seal on them is plastic so its reuseble, as opposed to the ball lids you buy are usually clay.
I always have my lids in hot water when I seal, I never use a cold lid. I know some people do. Maybe that makes a difference. My favorite jar I reuse is a motts juice jar. They have a button type lid and they make excellent syrup containers as you can pour from them easily. I make elderberry syrup..mmmmmm. goes good on ice cream, french toast etc...
I must admit tho I have never put these type in a pressure canner but I aim to try it this year. I have only used them in a hot water bath.
so stop wasting money on jars, gather them as you find them cheap at sales but save $$$ and reuse (my favorite being the short salsa jars and motts juice jars).

This week our small local grocery store had Classico pasta sauce on sale for $2.08 per jar. The jars are heavy, mason type jars, and I bought the sauce as much for the reusable jars as for the food inside. At two dollars a jar, I'm getting a really good deal on the sauce and figure I'm getting the jar for free
