I really do like most of the articles on Fox, some of the programs are a little too much for me, but it is that way with any station I watch. I have found that I want to spend less and less time following the news anymore and more time with my garden, shotgun and fishing pole.

Let's hope and pray that never happens. Unfortunately, many people think differently these days it seems. Oh there are still many people who think independently and believe in this country still, however, there are many people who would follow a flawed leader into doom. I agree with you Eddie, we are heading into a "---- storm" (sorry) full speed straight ahead; I hope we can pull through this.

This is crazy conspiracy stuff... The UN designates World Heritage Sites, but they do not control them in any way, shape or form. It is simply a way to recognize a site as being unique in the world, and that it is a wonderful thing to be cherished and protected. A lot of jurisdictions use such a designation as part of tourism promotion, or as a way to promote the quality of life in their region.

I believe the UN controls them by treaty. Watch what would happen if we wanted to build condos in Yellowstone. Another big push is for "environment corridors" (or some such thing, can't remember the exact word). The idea is to keep people in designated population areas and leave the rest alone for nature.

Quote:
The Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage is an international agreement that was adopted by the General Conference of UNESCO in 1972. It is based on the premise that certain places on Earth are of outstanding universal value and should therefore form part of the common heritage of mankind. The countries who ratify the Convention (States Parties) have become part of an international community, united in a common mission to identify and safeguard our world's most outstanding natural and cultural heritage. While fully respecting the national sovereignty, and without prejudice to property rights provided by national legislation, the States Parties recognize that the protection of the World Heritage is the duty of the international community as a whole....

Once a country signs the Convention, and has sites inscribed on the World Heritage List, the resulting prestige often helps raise awareness among citizens and governments for heritage preservation. Greater awareness leads to a general rise in the level of the protection and conservation given to heritage properties. A country may also receive financial assistance and expert advice from the World Heritage Committee to support activities for the preservation of its sites.

Unclench dude, it's all good...

OK, so it hasn't been ratified yet.

I remember a few years ago (maybe more) where someone wanted to develop his property that was next to an WHS and guess what, he was told that he couldn't do it. I think it happened in Australia but not sure.

BTW, congress is able to "pass" these treaties without actually ratifying them by passing "laws" piece-meal until the desired goal is attained.

And how do you figure they can "protect" it without CONTROLLING it "in any way shape or form"?

The only thing we have to worry about is being under the world court. All the rest is a ruse to get us to sign on and that is a mistake of great proportions.
