I'm in. I would love a real pen pal -- I had one from Korea when I was in HS, and I loved getting those letters. Just tonight I was talking to my mom (70s) and daughter (15) about how I used to write home once a week when I was in college and abroad in graduate school. My mom still has all the letters! PM me you are interested in non-electronic commnication.

Where do you live? I couldn't really find a definite state location browsing around your site.

Looks like something is starting here. Ok, a little about me, in case anyone is interested in becoming my penpal. I'm 51 yrs young. My DH is in the USAF, so we've traveled quite a bit. We are presently in Middle GA. I'm a Children's Pastor of a small country church. I have one child still at home, my DS who is 10. I'm pretty new to homesteading, but am loving it. So, if anyone is interested in being my penpal, please pm me. I would love to be penpal buddies with anyone. I love getting to know people.

As long as I can remember I have always looked in the mailbox for a letter from friends or family. I can't see how anyone would think it was wasteful or take up too much room. Letters make you smile, can be kept and shared. I guess what makes them so special is some one cared enough to get the paper and pen and sit down just to talk to you, even tho you were not there. Mostlt in full sentences.

For the past 5 years I have been penpals with an Amish woman in CA. I took the plunge to write her when I found her posting for a penpal in a homesteading mag. Back then I was really a total hermit (just little less of one now)
I so enjoy going out to my mailbox and getting one of her long interesting and spiritually boosting letters!

Count me in here too!
BTW I'm a transplanted Texan living in Mississippi

I would love to be a penpal, either written or email

I also miss seeing those ads for penpals in the back of the countryside magazine and would love to write (anyway you want to) with a pen pal. I am 45, female, married, have a total of three sons (one is my stepson) and one granddaughter. I enjoy cooking, sewing, gardening, reading and learning new things. I currently live at the Jersey shore, that's zone 7 technically, and have a vegetable garden, grapes, apple trees, a cherry tree, a fig tree, have chickens and my DH just bought me a greenhouse (not up yet). We would like to move to a more rural area probably still in Jersey but with at least 5-10 acres so we can have more animals and grow more things and have a little more privacy. I would love to exchange letters/emails/recipes etc.. with another fellow HT'er.

My mom had a pen pall for 40 years. They would write about every two weeks, her pen pal has since passed away. Just a few months ago actually, quite a loss. My mother also looks forward to letters from family regularly by mail. Chris

Count me in! I'm 39, living in NC on the coast. Have 4 children under 18 and 3 over 18, one grandchild on the way this September. My DH is retired USMC. We have been homesteading for 3 years now and raise dairy goats, meat goats, chickens, duck, turkeys, rabbits for meat and fiber, and hogs. I also garden using raised beds and regular garden plot. I would love to write back and forth with someone who loves to cook, can, knit, crochet, sew, or collect historical books. Please PM me.

When I taught school, I arranged with other teachers(from other states) for our classes to be "paired up" with each other. It was a great experience for the kids, as they discovered new friendships, and it made their letter writing experiences more authentic. Kids suddenly became aware of the embarrassment of having misspelled words, or poor punctuation or grammar. They were more selective about the things they wanted to include, in their letters. Even though these kids didn't have contact with children outside the US, they enjoyed the experience. It was so easy, I often wondered why other teachers never saw the value in participating.

OK, I'd love a pen-pal too. I am retired and just moved to TN from TX last year and really don't know anyone here except for DH's family. We live in the country and raise TWH's. I'd love to have a garden but for right now I just go to the farmer's market, love to sew and have a friend that I make dresses for her little girl. Some people might think that I have a cheap streak but I think I am just thrifty. It bothers me to hear people say, I got such a good deal, I only paid $150.00 for these jeans, I get mine at the Goodwill for $7.50. Of course, some people would say we pay too much for the care of our horses but I guess it is a trade off. I think we are rather conservative but not to an extreme.

I loved the Christmas card exchange, getting mail is so much fun! I am going to go through this post again to see if anyone "grabs" me but if you are interested in a pen pal, PM me.
