Many cites already ban the use of fireplaces when the quality is bad. Particulates ARE bad for folks that have respiratory problems. and others as well who don't like that smoke from even ONE fireplace. I HATED the fact that in winter in Phoenix you walk outside and ALL you smelt was SMOKE in the air. You didn't know if something was on fire like YOUR house or just what was going on~! And Mixed with DUST Particles, and you have what is know as a Brown Cloud Over the cities Not Good At All.~ Meaning Air Pollution, because the air quality is BAD. And most all of the dust in the air over Phoenix is from Ag plowing up the desert floor. So cut down on the dust made by agriculture and you cut down the pollution making particulates in the air which is GOOD.

This is almost comical. Just walking down my dirt road causes dust certain times of the year. Is the government going to pave every road in the country to keep dust from flying or are we not going to be able to drive unless the conditions are right?

Craziness.

Don't know much about dust, but it's interesting to read about concerns of starvation and high food costs if current practices cannot be continued.

First, far from starvation, there is an obesity epidemic in America, resulting in several life-threatening diseases like diabetes. The lifespan of the next generation will be shorter than the previous. I say bring on some starvation! That would motivate more people to grow their own food, resulting in exercise, which is also good.

As for the price of food, how many billions of dollars of government money is spent each year to keep food prices low? Ironic we spend money to save money.

I assume all those who are anti-government are also against government subsidies which result from forcibly taking money from the citizens - money they could use to buy food.

I also get the feeling that farmers often despise the people who buy their food. The city folk are supposed to tolerate smelly feedlots, dusty air, etc. Or they shouldn't keep reproducing and encroaching on farmland (high-rise apartments better?). I recall when video was released of workers mistreating downer cattle, on a cattle forum the prevailing opinion was that city folks just don't get it - that is the only way you could handle those cows. The city folks are just supposed to understand what it takes.

Only problem I see is if you demand something from an industry, you'd better be reaching in your pocket to pay for what you demand, and people don't when it comes to food. I get sick and tired of new regulations making it harder and harder to produce something, yet there being no increase in value for the extra money time and effort put into it because someone has whined that it's not right.

This country is so stupid it deserves to starve.

Jennifer
