Mmmmm...With a property like that, I think you need to catch the horse bug....when you get settle in take a trip over here, we'll take you trail riding to try to convert you!
My dad grew up training horses to be cattle horses. When he moved to MO a motorcycle worked a bit easier than a horse for fetching cows, so we kids all learned to ride the motorcycle. I might have to take you up on the trail ride though. We aren't rich enough to own horses!

The only work right now is to get my daughter's wedding planned. She will be married on the 7th and the packers come on the 9th. Fortunately, we will have packers and loaders and unloaders and whatever else we need.

NOW moving is exciting. We left home on THursday both wondering why we were even going to look for a house. We didn't want to move, we didn't want to leave what we have worked so hard for.....but now that we have a place...I can't get there soon enough.

I'll rent you a stall.....

Originally that was all I could think of doing - rent out the grazing and stalls to those that own horses. AFter the shock of actually getting this place wore off, I starting some new kinds of thinking are thinking of raising a jersey or some kind of cross heffer (you know, young female cow) from as young as we can get her to milking stage- that gives us a while to decide if we really want to milk a cow 2x a day...I mean if I want to milk a cow....

Thanks for all the well-wishes. You guys are the best!

It is really terribly exciting. The inspections here are done and the ones there will be finished up tomorrow. If it wasn't for the wedding we could be moving next week! I didn't say that . . .

I dunno.. I think if it were me, i'd wanna be selfish. My land, My critters- I just don't think I'd want to have people on my farm, day in and day out. Besides, stuff like that jacks the cost of insurance. If people are boarding there, they're going to want to ride.....

Yeah, ditto the welcome to Michigan, Callie!

With seven acres you'll be able to raise a cow/calf, some chickens and a couple of pigs if you want to. Don't know how bad you want goats, but fencing them in can be a little more challenging than some other types of livestock. I tried goats but didn't like the milk and didn't like them getting loose all the time, so I'm sticking with my cow for now.

How soon do you want to get a calf?

As soon as I can get the garden in and an area fenced. I can put them in a stall in the barn for a while, but I want them outside when it gets warm. I also need to see what kind of pasture I actually have. Right now, it rather needs a brush hog. I have decided to use the riding arena area for the garden - so I will just have to move one fence to enlarge it and add the wire. Once that is done and the plants are in - it is calf time! Hopefully, but late May. Is that too late?
