who's missing? re: weather - Homesteading Questions
who's missing? re: weather - Homesteading Questions

Our electric went out Tuesday evening and came back on Sat. evening. We had a generator that kept our freezers and stove going. We were also able to run the well system when the county water stopped. Our Hardy furnance
kept our water warm enough to shower with.

We have tree damage all over. Some were even uprooted. One of the above pics is of our driveway. It is what has fallen after being cleaned the day before. It sounded like shotguns going off for 2 days.

I was very happy our electric came on. They had said they didn't have any idea when we would get it. Our phone was out off and on. My Daughter works farther south and her job has been cancelled until next Monday.

This is the worst ice storm I have seen here. I talked to an older woman and she said 75 years ago she remembers one like it. She said back then you didn't have to worrry about electric there was none. You just had to worry about limbs falling on you.

One of the pictures above is our garage that had a huge hackberry behind it. Most of it eventually fell on or near the garage.

We were better off than most because we had the generator. It did suck the gas up though. Hubby kept busy trying to get to town to get more if a gas station was open. The most a tank lasted was 7 hrs. The least was 4. I don't know why it wouldn't run the same all time, unless it was because if you used the stuff in the house it took more power.

Our neighbors power still has not been restored. The trees and limbs took down their power line leading to the house and the company has not put it back. They got a generator loaned to them after someone elses power came on.

During the whole thing no one from any government was their to help those that needed help. We did it ourself without government help and things went smooth. We lost power and went 6 days before power was restored and some of my neighbors still don't have power and wont until Saturday at least.

You received electrical service in the first place from a government program I'd bet.REA or TVA.

Lots of folks in Rilpey County still without power, even right here in town! Mine was out til Friday afternoon. Amazed at the number of folks that don't know that you can gather some wood out in the yard, pile it up and build a little fire to make some food hot. My neighbors are some of those folks. They stayed cold for two days (unknown to me) until a coworker of ours discovered that they did not know how to turn on their gas fireplace!!!! They have lived there longer than I have and that will be 3 years in August! These are not young folks! They are an elderly couple and a son about 30 and his wife and kids.
Younever know what people don't know!

NO ours comes from a nuclear plaint or several coal fired plaints owned by Energy. We are still paying for the plaint in Louisiana.

Tomorrow will be day 9 for us without power. Although it is not the ideal situation we are very blessed. Because of our generator, woodstove, & cistern water we have been able to manage just fine.

Danville area got hit wicked hard, was driving in it last Tues. & Wed saw first hand all the destruction and runs on the gas station & Walmart. Even the station in our small town ran out of gas! There was only one station in Danville that was even able to open and they stopped selling gas to the public early on saving all for emergency crews. They are making great strides but it is going to be a long haul around here.

Here is two photos of what we have been having. I know it not much snow but we all sure love it.. The winds we have here are dangerously cold.. BRRR The snowflakes we had here at times was the size of quarter or half dollar size snowflakes.
