The only thing that causes us to have a big jump in electrical use is our power tools. If we are doing a lot of construction, we may see our usage go up about 300kw for that month. Our daily average runs between 30-55 kwh with the highest being when we are doing construction work in the summer and also have the AC running.
I have not noticed a siginficant change depending on if I have the fence plugged in or not. It got grounded out this summer when the grass got tall, and I've had it unplugged since. My horses rarely test the fence, they are happy with the side they are on.
I've also not noticed a big draw in the winter when I've got three heated bucket and two heated bases plugged in, along with the auto waterer for the horses and a heat lamp on 24/7 in the chicken coop.
We also had much higher bills when we were running a space heater in the cellar to keep the pipes from freezing. That ended up costing us about $100 more a month for Jan and Feb of 05 because it was darn cold.
We read our own meter, and I've got paperwork back to 2003. Our heat is on a separate meter. Before we put in the wood stove (and replaced windows and added insulation) we used about 85 kwh per day to heat the house. Now it runs 50kwh per day. Our water heater uses less than 10 kwh per day.
We have an "all electric" house, no natural gas or propane.
