They are great to keep people away from your front door. One year maybe 10 years ago now, bald faced hornets built a nest directly above my front door. I didnt bother them, just went about my buisiness, and since their nest started out small they accepted me as belonging there and that I wasnt going to hurt their nest. They would buzz a bit if I shut door too hard, but didnt attack me.
However they could tell humans apart. Anybody else came to my door and they rallied the troops to chase them off. It was an interesting summer for the hornets and I to observe each.
