Each to their own, personally I'd rather be towing with a heavier truck than I need rather than a lighter one. Believe me the difference in stability between a one ton or even a heavy duty 3/4 ton and a half ton is incredible. Much heavier and stiffer frame. One ton with duals really adds to stability. I know its pain when you are only occasionally going to use a truck for real work, but only takes that one time when the tail wags the dog to create major problems in your life.

I really wish insurance companies would offer some kind of serious break on a third or fourth vehicle that is only used rarely putting on very few miles each year. Most of time not worth insuring it all year, plus maintenence, etc. Maybe if only need heavy duty pickup handful of times a year cheapest to just rent one.
