Construction is way down (thus, lower demand for lumber). Expenses are way up.

Unemployment is becoming a global problem really quickly. Other economies are swirling down just as fast as ours. Since there are so many folks out of work, perhaps looking into starting some sort of work for yourself might be something to try while looking for other work?
Anything you can do to produce food should be a worthwhile enterprise, I would think. We've been hatching out chicken eggs to sell the chicks which is kinda a "value added" sort of enterprise. Lots of folks want a few hens in their backyard to turn kitchen scraps into eggs and we buy back crowing roosters for the price they paid for the chicks if they don't want the roosters. We give them a new chick, if they prefer, if we have one at the time. So far they've been happy about getting rid of a crowing rooster and haven't noticed they've been feeding them up to slaughter size without us paying for the feed. We've made enough money to offset rising costs of other things this year with just two small styrofoam incubators we found at a yard sale and on Craig's List. |
Sorry for the job loses. The sawmill where we get our wood looks to have slowed way down too. It doesn't look like they have cut and lumber in quite awhile and I see no fresh logs on site. They make the kits for log homes so I guess they are getting hit too. Lucky for us there is a mountain of slabs there so we should have plenty of fire wood. Sam

So do you want us to send you money? Remember that one guy on HT that conned the moderators into believing he actually needed money, and got the money, and ripped off the user base! I heard he made off with $$$, I met him at Barker Hill I do believe...funny stuff if it wasn't soo true! |
You two are funny!
Thanks for the chuckle..... |
In 1995 the factory where myself and my entire family worked closed the doors and moved away.
That was during the Clinton years. It about killed our little town, but we did get a new employer in there eventually. By that time, most of the work force had moved away or moved on. For me, it was a good thing. When one door close, many more open up. Sorry to hear of your misfortune. |

Well, IMO, there is one small thing that every one of us can do that will make a difference...
It won't matter if politicians want to hear us or not. Take the time to find local, small time sources to buy your goods from - whatever need you are trying to fill. Barter. Use Craigslist and buy used. Buy cast-off clothing from your local church thrift store and WEAR THOSE LIKE A BADGE OF HONOR. If nobody is local, then use the internet, buy homemade good from cottage industries on ETSY and the like. If you really love this country, take the time to find the local farmers, and go buy from them. Sure, you may still have to go to Walmart for awhile, at first, until things become available again.... but keep at it. |
Until the government worries about " we the people" and less about importing everything ( that we can make here) an less about the global economy , things will never get better. Benny

Since someone else acted as Dr. Frankenstien for this thread, I think I'll just point something out. Namely, this quote:

I cannot for the life of me see how he could have been any worse than Obama has been. Hope that change is working out for you, because America's not working because of it! |
Wow two post since 2008 I need more sleep !!
