Escalating Property taxes and land prices played a role in our decision to leave WI. The property taxes on our new farm in Kansas are less than WI even with more acres and buildings of higher value.
I will say, though, the the property taxes on Missouri farms were even more affordable than Kansas.
If you own farmland in WI, you may want to verify that you are benefiting from "Use-Value" assessment. In layman's terms it means that if you have a hayfield next to a new shopping mall on the edge of urban sprawl, you will still only be taxed on what the land is used for - a hayfield. But you have to actually use it as a hayfield.
If you own timber land, I believe the term is "Forest Crop" which is a longer term enrollment which will greatly reduce your annual property taxes.
I only make suggestions of programs one may explore.
*Please consult with local authorities at your county courthouse and educate yourself in ALL details of these programs before acting.*
