I have propane camp stove I can use or propone grill. I think an out door place to cook would be handy. Fire place type. I would like one with roof over it.

My husband died end of 68 and with 3 kids I went to work. I retired 5 years ago this coming Xmas. Last kid left in 78. I am alone. But only 5 acres. 30 years with only me and no kids. Been on my own here 40 years and before I was doing what had to be done. I am 76.

I do not care too much for tuna either. We are lucky here and the electric stays on.

You need the firewood cut up ahead. I have no stove to burn wood but I do have wood. Tree limbs that are cut up. I could build a camp fire.

This is a really encouraging thread! I'm not even close to a homesteader. I have an acreage at the edge of a small town.

I have a should-be disabled DH, lots of work to do on the house and the place, FT job and school. I sure wonder about my brains sometimes, coming out here, but anyway, I'm here.

We used to be a great team cutting wood, but it's not practical any more. I just ordered a load of wood from a local guy.

The advice to think harder and work less is good, the best. Most times I can figure a way to do a hard thing easier, and using my brain is easier on my back. Ya gotta be patient, the good ideas don't come first, lol.

I'm married, but I have a city model hubby who is not interested in homesteading so I do it all. If I were suddenly unable to do chores he wouldn't have a clue what to do. I have been teaching my 4 yr old what animals need which feed etc. She could probably help him muddle through.

Start small, and don't move onto other things until you are certain you are ready for the extra work. Before getting critters make sure you have a plan in place to pen, house and handle them. Double check your plan for ways to makes chores easier on yourself.

For example, today while I was milking I had my 4 yr old DD go feed the boys (Buck & wether). They were to rambunctious for her to go in the pen to dump the food in the pan, so she ended up dumping it on the ground. After some thought I took their metal feed pan, punched a small hole near the rim and attached it with a short light chain to a fence post. Now she can pull the pan up to the post and use the funnel I built to pour the feed into the pan without having to enter the pen or dump pellets on the ground.

When I'm not milking I can complete the morning chores in 15-20 minutes and the evening ones in 10-15 minutes. And that is with having to haul water to the goats and chickens.
