I like the man....He has done well and he has done it by himself. I'm sure he stepped on a few folks in the process but that is capitalism. I don't know if he is still at it but about a year or so ago there was an article in a Geologist periodical that showed he was semi secretly buying up HUGE tracts of underground water rights in W. Texas.....Why? Dallas metro expansion futures? Does it somehow tie in to his energy speculating??

Why didn't he get these great ideas when he was making millions with gas and oil and if someone even suggested alternitive energy he probably would have tried to stop them.

At least he's putting his own money where his mouth is. Unlike Al Gore who wants to put everyone else's money in his pocket.

I think it's a great idea, another energy source to add to the grid. I hope he makes tons of money at it too, it's the Ameican way.

There's no "one" thing that will solve the energy problem, if there even is one, real or imagined. We need to get our energy from many sources, just like today. We use oil, propane, natural gas and nuclear. Let's throw in solar, wind and hydrogen too, as well as electric and hybrid cars. And I hope all the people who are willing to invest in any of those energy sources make money at it. It's my choice to use those sources or produce my own, by using it from someone else I'm happy to pay them for their investment. If I don't like the price I can make my own, or do things to lessen how much I need, or do the capitalist thing and find a way to make more money to pay for it.

I love America!

Because alternative energy does not become economically viable until gas hits about $4/gal. I don't know if he's out to make a profit or not. Even if he's doing this as a benefit to the US, the system has to be self-sustaining. That wasn't possible with cheap energy. Once this gets going, I believe you'll see more people jumping on the bandwagon to diversify their energy sources.

With China becoming such a big consumer of energy, I don't think fuel prices are going to go down that much. That leaves alternative energy being used more. The more its used, the cheaper its going to get.

Major problem; wind stops blowing, electricity stops flowing into the grid, the grid starts a cascade failure, large blackouts come about. To prevent this you'd have to have conventional power plants warmed up and ready 24/7 to take over when the wind stops. Might save some fuel but at what cost?

Don't get locked into thinking of wind generators as the big 3-bladed ones. They also come in other shapes, such as one with multiple vanes, but not but larger than a 55-gallon drum. You equip enough houses with these and they can make a significant impact.

I located in a shallow valley which opens to the Southwest. Isn't very often I see my windmill blades not turning.

Excel Energy here in MN has a big generator right in the Mpls Suburb of Maple Grove. Rarely is that thing NOT spinning when I drive by, and that's around shopping centers and 4 story high buildings!

Wind is a viable option, but it's not the entire answer.

Can't do that not at all. Just look at how much plastic is just used in ONE automobile~! And that is because of the wt. issue and getting better gas mileage, plus no rusting metal in many areas. ALL TVs. Computers and ALL the other appliances that are made from plastics can never ever get away from that not in this point in time never.
