Hope you find it, any snake can hide really well, I have had them lost in the house for months at a time.

Word about copperheads, they are really placid and calm, being slow to bite but almost NEVER dry bite, unlike many poisonous snakes they bite with intent Keep looking but use a snake stick or long handled trash picker-up-er to move things. When you bend to lift a box out of the way if its behind it your face is only inches away from it. Oh, they also arnt great climbers so look inside your couch, in teh bed springs (always lifting AWAY FROM YOU and having someone looking at a distance with a flashlight to see in corners), under kitchen counters anywhere dark and cool, you could try baiting it out with water, yes, it will get thirsty so a closed box with a hole cut in it with a bowl of water and a towel or something to hide in is a great snake catcher.

Good luck!

Just last week, I opened a chest of drawers I keep in my basement with quilting supplies in it, but it had more than quilting supplies! It had a garter snake curled up in the 2nd drawer.

Called every pest exterminator in our area. Not one dealt with snakes. Got a
1-800 Number which happened to be in Dallas. I live in Western PA. He wanted my money to tell me what I already knew.

Haven't seen the snake since so am hoping it found it's way back out. But, believe me, I'm quite careful moving anything in the basement. Sure hope it doesn't find it's way upstairs.

Call animal control or a wildlife or reptile rescue.

Have to say the first thing I thought of was the mouse bait too. It is only cruelty to animals if you let him eat the mouse before catching him. Or maybe it is the other way around. My cats alway brought up snakes too, but never poisonous ones, maybe they knew the difference. They do like cozy spots in drawers and boxes. I think I would use a long stick or broom to push things away from the wall and would be hesitant to pick up anything with an open top. Good luck catching Sir Hiss. Maybe you are lucky and it will turn out to be a rat snake. They can look a lot like a copperhead (depending on type and age).

We had one in a drawer once, too. Pantry drawer.

Borrow a rat terrier.
