It's my husband that wants the goats....I think they are cute but I wind up wishing we hadn't gotten them.

We fixed the fence last night and I just finished watering the garden tonight and I went to get the chicken feed and, by golly!..the goats were in the corn field! My husband came out of the house smiling because he had just finally taken a shower and felt all clean and refreshed and I said, Do you see the **** goats out there in the corn! Boy did his face fall !! I think even he is getting tired of the little escape artists.

So we had to go find the new problem....one little hole near the bottom of the fence that a rabbit couldn't go through! They are in the fence for now...but tomorrow they will probably be out again **sigh**

Welllllll,

The rosebushes may come back, but chances are they are grafted onto another variety of rootstock, and that will be what comes up.

Chalk up another one for the goats.

Cattle panels work really well for goats that aren't big enough to jump them. I wouldn't fence them in anything else. I've tried hot wire, and cattle fencing. I don't trust anything but cattle panels any more.

Trade your goats in for some fainting goats. They are so easy to confine. They can't climb. They can't jump. A jolt of electricity knocks them right over. They almost make goat raising fun.

You cannot make good enough fences to keep goats away from fruit trees. Goats and fruit trees are totally incompatible.

Look up "bridge graft"--that is the way to save trees that have bark removed all the way around. Needs to be done as soon as possible.

Thanks you reminded me just in time why I sold the goats. We could not keep them in. And it is true...they will not eat the regular run of the mill tree..they will zero in on your most expensive, cherished fruit tree, rosebush, berry bush etc Then they will not kill it outright...you then have to sit and watch your tree slowly die. Yep...now I remember why I sold the goats.
Christiaan. I wondered about the fainting goats, if they would be as bad to escape. Silly question. Do people use them for milk.

Start looking for some replacement trees for fall planting.
