Cindy, I'm about 30 miles from shepherdsville, though I've never been through there. Would the swap meet location be obvious driving through town, or do you have a specific location or phone number I could call?

Mikesmate, I live about 5 miles from Fairview. I go to the big auction that they have about once a year near Fairview, but I don't think I have ever gone to the Penny Saver. Is it right in Fairview. I usually wind up going toward Hopkinsville for most things. I'll have to try it if they've got some good things there. I need to get out more

For those KY folks raising chickens, how well do you insulate your coops? I've been out of KY for about 10 years, so I forget how winter is down here. I am currently laying out a fixed coop. I'm trying to figure out if a non-insulated, but draft free enclosed coop is enough.
Works for us just fine. We even leave the windows open until it get into the single digits. I'd be more concerned with insulating their waterer than the chicken house.

Springledge-The Penny Saver is right across from the Auction, their sign is right by the road. I think they're open every day but Sunday. Another good Amish store is The Country Pantry-it's in Guthrie, which is still fairly close to you.

Re: stoes, Don't forget Dettweilers in Cub Run and the new general store on Strawberry Lane off of 100 between Scottsville & Franklin. Oh, and the bulk store on 68-80 in Auburn.

I'm in Southern Bullitt County--Lebanon Junction. 30 miles south of Louisville, 10 miles south of Shepherdsville. It's a little slice of heaven, except for the fact that we are about 1000 feet from Fort Knox--those howitzers can really rattle the windows!

We have 70 acres and have been living there about a year. Right now we just have chickens, but hope to add goats soon and eventually a donkey or two. No major crops except for my big garden, but I do get enough to sell at a Farmer's market in Louisville on Saturdays.

BTW, the Shepherdsville swap meet is at the stockyards. On the right hand side of the road about a mile past town if you're heading south on 61--it's pretty easy to find.

Thanks a ton. Be careful when you get your goats. You may get a visit from the Knox treasury guys for breaching their fences.

I'm in Hart county, I'm about 30 min south of E-town. I go to E-town fairly often, and up to Louisville a couple times a month.

I was without wheels for a time, but have another car now. I'd love to meet some of the nearby folks. With gas as high as it is, I doubt many of us want to drive very far, but some of us are pretty close to each other.

I used to live in Metcalfe, it was nice there. Not much work, though, that's why we moved.

Stephen-Yes, Dettweilers is a good one. Hadn't heard of the one on 100, have to check it out. I wasn't that impressed with the Mennonite store on 68/80, seemed a little pricey.

Turn off 100 onto Perrytown Road & proceed to the old Billy Towe tack shop (Where the April auction is) turn right onto Hinton Road, it's about a mile up at the crossroads. New AA 921 for $178, 915 for $158, 50 lbs cane sugar for $23, much more in 50 lb bags than Auburn or Dettweilers. Yep, Auburn's pricey, but so much closer to me I can pay a bit more. Happy shopping!

To expand on this post, and others:

I work in Pulaski, live in Russell, own 2 acres in Adair, and would like to buy in Casey.

For those in Metcalfe, I love the area, would enjoy living there on 80 between Columbia and Edmonton some day, but the drive to Somerset is too long.
