Don't put yourself anywhere near center pivot wheels when it's on.

They look slow, but they'll move when you're not expecting it, and can easily catch something while they slowly walk over you!

My kids like to play in the spray from the end gun of the pivot near our house. So long as the chemi-gation isn't running, it's just fun, giant sprinkler. But Thursday afternoon I almost had a heart attack when I saw both of them climbing on the second tower.
Their dad and I then had to tell them every farm-accident story we know. I cried!
(I hope it made an impression on them. Too many kids are hurt in farm or ranch accidents each year. I really don't want mine to be in the number!)

Farm safety is taught in our schools, which is a great reinforcement for the rules we instill at home. There is an organization in my town that is dedicated to farm safety for kids, and they have great resources for both kids and adults: http://www.fs4jk.org/

Yep, I've seen many accidents reported on this.....they had to cut the side out of a nutrina grain elevator because somone fell in and sufficated. One farmer fell in and the firemen got there in 30 mins(pretty quick) from the time of the accident but he still died.

never kiss someone that pauses for a second from using a wire wheel on a drill to take paint off of metal if you have long hair!

Keep your tools in good repair. One time I was up in a silage silo evening the load so the auger would keep even and they gave me a loose headed pitchfork and one time I dug in deep and that sucker went sideways through my boot and out the bottom of my foot. OW...

I don't know if it is complacency, familiarity, slowing reflexes or advancing age but they seem to be the ones who buy it or nearly buy it with tractors. Oh, there are younger guys who get hurt and killed but for some reason the majority are older guys.

Once when I was a kid a neighbor had both arms torn off by a grain auger. Terribly disturbing for a young kid, or anyone else for that matter, to witness.
Ack. I meant to say

I can't even type correctly. I'd better stay away from sharp objects let alone machinery.
