Traditionally corn meal was mostly made from flint corn. If you want to try commercial dent field corn, dont buy lot of it until you know you like it, has horrible off taste in my opinion. I suspect any traditional corn (non-hybrid, non-GMO) would have best taste even dent or flour corns. I like the traditional multicolored "Indian Corn" open pollinated version for corn meal myself. Its a flint corn. Used to be sold for decoration, now they have hybrid versions with brighter colors.

We have a Retsel Mill. The owners' manual and their website both warn against grinding popcorn in the mill.
