I think we're slowly sinking into it NOW. Or maybe not so slowly. Seems to be accelerating.

I THINK they are saying that if a Democrat is elected, that it is going to be harder to buy guns. So, if you have been thinking of a purchase of guns or ammo, buy now!

Edited to add: Then again, they MIGHT have been meaning that if the wrong person is elected, it might hit the fan!

Though, I have only skimmed things at this point. I will sit down and read the articles better soo: I just got the magazine myself and I got distracted by the overnight bread recipe. (You only put in 1/4 teaspoon of yeast, do NOT knead, let it set for up to 18 hours, knead just 12 times, rise for 2 hours, and bake. It worked VERY well!!!!!!!!).

Piglady, I think that your post shows an optimistic attitude towards a good outcome for the degenerating situation. Wish everybody else felt the same. Unfortunately, I expect to see replies that will be mostly negative in their outlook and/or blaming this, that or the other political party for all the problems.
Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing Smalltown America/Australia revived.

It SAID 10 to 12 times, but that felt redundant. I don't think the dough benefited from the last 8 times: the first 4 times gave the dough shape and added a bit more flour to it. It WAS a little sticky!

When I do it again, I will just do 4 folds and put the seam down in the pan.

And, instead of lifting it into the pan with parchement paper, I coated the pan with pam and let it raise the last time in the pan that I baked it in.

They were RIGHT to say to put a lid on it during the first part of baking: I got a very nice thin crust that the family enjoyed!

Don't get me wrong, I love having my 12 ga and wouldn't give it up, but those republicans that he is touting are the reason for the mess we're in! Wouldn't it be better to have an administration with a little common sense, that upholds the constitution, and voice your opinions with them?
Flame on.
The RW wants to be sure they have lots of guns and ammo before the election so when Obama wins in a landslide they can go on a rampage and fight Civil War v 2.0.

They really like fascism the way Bush has got things set up, and they are not gonna relinquish power easily. Fair fights are not the RW way.

OH!

My mistake: I mixed up an article in the magazine with the one you are talking about! You are referring to the article on the website!

As a regular reader I CAN say that Ayoob is their gun expert, and he VERY much beleives in guns! He LOVES them!

And, MOST of the staff APPEARS to be Libertarian, not Republican.

I just posted this in another topic in the Survival forum, but it seems to go good here too.

Intense economic anxiety has gripped tens of millions of working Americans.

For those who are interested in the recipe - I have already gotten one request- I used my usual bread recipe and I just decreased the yeast required to 1/4 teaspoon. I mixed the ingredients, covered it with tin foil as I was out of plastic, and let it sit from 8 PM until 11AM.

I turned it out, kneaded it 12 times, and put it in a deep pot that had been sprayed with PAM. I sprayed the top of the dough as well.

After it had raised enough, I pu t it in a hot oven (500 degrees, reduce the heat to 425 when you put the bread in).

Bake with a lid on for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake until the crust is nice and brown.

Let cool, and turn out and slice.

The ORIGIONAL recipe called for 9 ounces of unbleached flour, 6 ounces of graham flour (whole wheat, I think!), 1 1/2 teaspoon of Kosher salt, 1/4 teaspoon on instant yeast, 1 Tablespoon of brown sugar, and 10 1/2 ounces of spring water. But, as long as you use 1/4 teaspoon of yeast and bake in the way he reccomends, the bread is excellent.

I think I will add oatmeal to the next loaf. And, I wonder if the crust will be more crispy if I skip the PAM on top of the bread and put a lid on it instead during the final rising? maybe I can sprinkle the risen dough with water just before I bake it to get a crispier crust: this is good but I like thin crusts that downright CRACKLE!

Many nights on the news they interview many Americans who complain about gas and food prices. I can't help but notice they are often overweight and are often fueling up a Ford Expedition or the like. Guess it never occurs to people to cut back their lifestyle and save for the bad times. Oh, yeah, I forgot, no need to do that - the gov't will take care of us.

Of course, if they want to sell their SUV they probably won't be able to find a buyer. We bought a V-8 Silverado before gas prices began climbing and we are unable to purchase another vehicle until it is paid off. Like many people, we are stuck with a gas guzzler.

Does anyone know how to cook groundhog? They are the only wild game of any size around here, besides the rabbits.

Yup the gov will sure take care of us alright, just not in a good way.

Here is what people who aren't prepared do...

Yesterday my son had to go help a family who has moved to a large lot subdivision and wanted to clear some trees and brush. The 44 year old DAD asked if my son could come over and:

show him how to use a chain saw, how to cut down trees and wanted to know what to do with them once they were cut down.
show him how to dig post holes and string chain link fence.
show him how to mow his yard..with a push mower (talking an acre of grass here..)

My 18 year old son went over at 8 yesterday..with our chain saw, extra chains, chain oil, gas mix and extra 2 cycle oil and a five gallon gas can. He also took post hole diggers, fence puller, staples, hammers, and all the other various implements of destruction and proceeded to show these folks how to do stuff.

They eat out EVERY MEAL nearly..say they hate to cook, so for breakfast they gave my kid McDonalds, for lunch they gave the kid McDonalds..

for supper he called and said Mom, I'm coming HOME to eat..

He stayed all day, worked his rear end off, and they paid him 35.00..but he said he made them learn how to operate all the tools and then directed them on how to mow.

These folks have lived in the city all their lives..had no clue how to even use a push mower..

think they will survive anything? I doubt it unless people like my kid and me are around..cause they sure are a helpless bunch.

He said he wouldn't do it again for that amount of pay, he was literally exhausted when he got home. Then he ate, took a bath, and left for the big farm to do some spraying of fence lines this morning.

He has learned more working in the past 8 years than many adults, but only because we have farms where he got to see how things were done, then do them himself.

Wonder how many other folks never cook..he said when they asked what he wanted for supper, he said he was going home to eat some real food..

I'm proud of him, and glad I've taken the time to show him over the years how to do stuff, cause I know he will survive whatever may come.

I'd think you would cook them like possum? But with possum you have to trap them, feed them for a few weeks on milk and corn to make them taste right..

then kill, gut, skin and bake it with potatoes, carrots, etc. put the groundhog up on a rack inside the roasting pan so the grease will drain off - at least that is the way possum baked works.

lots of possums, nasty little critters, but once trapped and fed out on corn, milk, bread, they turn out ok.

don't ask me how I know this..lol..

oh and go for the young ones..the old ones are tough and gamey..same as with any animal I reckon.
