I'm siding with Tiempo on this one. DW has been feeding me quite well now for better than 7 years. Her Brit food is as good as it gets, and she's learned to cook Southern as well (and as fast) as anyone I know.

A few years ago, I had a seziure, and all the sudden, watches don't stop when I wear them but the dang skeeters bite me now...
Is there some kind of term for this electrical thing I can google? I always wipe out hotel key cards within a day if I have them in my pocket (I dont' carry credit cards so I wouldn't know there and dont' wear a watch) and get shocked a lot as well. Ha, I get scared I'd atttract a lightning bolt on my head someday. I can detect ghosts too

I also am not bothered by mosquitoes. I do get bit once in a while, but it doesn't itch or swell up big. I've watched them land on me, kinda poke around like they're sniffing, and fly off without biting. Yay for me!

Does Gordon Ramsey know about these ladies?

Before I can answer that, I'd have to ask one question. Who is Gordon Ramsey?

I was constantly told the food in England and Scotland was atrocious and that I'd be very well advised to avoid it. I was pleasantly surprised when I began sampling the local cuisine there. Some stuff was a little heavy but it was quite good. Some things not to my taste but I find that anywhere. Didn't like the baked beans or black pudding.

LOL - thanks for the chuckle Max! I do feel for you though

This is an interesting thread. I get eaten alive every year while DH is barely bothered. In fact, I have a favorite hairbrush - yes hairbrush - that I swear is the only way to scratch that makes them stop itching - even above and beyone any oinments or creames I've tried. I've had bites wake me up in the middle of the night itching.

The carbon dioxide thing I have heard before and I think that makes sense. I sweat a lot when I'm outside working - I start dripping just standing outside on those hot humid days, and have been known for a little huffing and puffing at times too, depending on the activity I'm doing - so I can understand the carbon dioxide thing. I've thought for a long time I sweat way more than DH. (wow, that sounds lovely doesn't it?)

The oily skin thing is interesting. DH has very oily skin and they don't EVER bother him. I don't have oily skin at all.

Well - I don't know - but I sure wish someone would find a definitive natural cure all that works for EVERYONE. Until then I'll just have to keep showering off the "Off" each night when I come in. I can handle a little DEET if it means no bites.

Maybe their's something to the oil thing. I make an herbal bug dope that's high in castor oil and pine tar and rarely get bit. Though they constsntly bump against me. It's also tick heaven here. A 50 foot walk into high grass and you'll pull off 20-50 ticks. I keep this reppellant in an old Dawn dishwashing bottle. I always lather up with it before heading outdoors. Ticks sometimes [rarely] will bite through this stuff and if they do never really bite down hard.

When I was a kid, I used to go to summer camp up in Northern Wisconsin. We were told to take Vitamin B something or another for 2 months before going up there. Our skin would then vent this scent that even humans could smell. I don't know if it worked or not because I didn't know about the 2-month leadtime.

When I was in college, I had a buddy who didn't have a spleen, apendix or gall bladder. Something in his family so he had them all taken out in high school. No skeeter would dare bite him. Not a one! We used to go into the woods in Western Illinois and all of us would get eaten alive despite all the bug sprays. He wouldn't wear the junk and still wouldn't get a single bite. We used to joke that once he got bitten and you could hear the skeet coughing and gagging as he flew off to tell the other about who not to bite.

I'm going to try the matchhead thing. We have had so much rain this year, skeeters are a big concern. Plus, we have West Nile Virus, which has killed people in my county.

I was told in college that it had to do with your body's PH balance

I am bothered by them on a small scale, but not like they do everyone else around me. I've also heard they are attracted to medium - dark colored clothing.
