My .02 is that this dog could be a cross of ANY of the common herding breeds -- BC, aussie, heeler. It's really hard to tell.

The head looks like it belongs to an aussie, though. The upwards curve on the tail could be aussie -- undocked aussies will sometimes have a tail like that -- or something like a husky or a multitude of other breeds. He's got a build like a husky too, though that may be pure coincidence. (Crossing a husky with an aussie is rather stupid because then you get a SMART hyperactive dog that doesn't come when called and likes to run, but people do it.)

FYI, the long hair coat on aussies -- and the coarse coat on a heeler -- is fairly recessive. I have a dog who I KNOW is a heeler/aussie cross and she has a very short, fine coat unlike either parent breed. Funny how that works sometimes ...)

mutt

blue heeler (also heard called walker) & blk lab mutt. Actually looks a little small boned for the blue heeler/walker. Labs are grand but my experience w/ blue heeler...not the best pet. I have not had lots of exp. w/them.

Well, I didn't read all of the replies but I can tell you this is a mutt. Cute mutt but he's no ACD. I have three purebred ACD's and am a Foster Home for Rescued ACD's. If this dog is part ACD or more likely half Border Collie be aware of what you are getting BEFORE you adopt the dog! Read and study about both breeds so you are prepared. These are working dogs with a strong prey drive and their own ideas about how things should be done. They need a JOB, really seriously or they can be a real problem. That's probably why this dog wound up where he is in the first place. He had no work to do.

If you are prepared to deal with the behavioral problems that may be there and will commit yourself to taking this dog to obedience classes and using those brains, giving him LOTS of exercise etc then go ahead and jump in.

If he is an ACD or Border Collie cross he's going to be smart and he will need to be BUSY. Realize this, and then go have fun and enjoy a great dog!
