I've got 3 that look just like that one. Daddy is a BH, Momma is some kind of hound mix, she's red in color.

I've been to visit with him 3 or 4 times about 30-45 minutes each visit and even when his adoption row mates are going crazy he doesn't make a sound. I have never heard him bark or whimper at all. He is very loving though once he warms up to you. He doesn't bark at the chickens they have at the pound (some kind of mosquito research) which is important because I have 14 lovely hens and a very responsible light brahama rooster. He also doesn't seem to mind the shelter cats that are hanging around there (according to the kennel tech). So who knows, he may just be the find of the century? I'm definitely excited about him though.

There are three kinds of dogs, Big ones, little ones and in-be-tween ones, looks like an in-be-tween one to me.

Apparently there is an attraction already, or you wouldn't have gone thru the trouble of asking and posting the question.
Bring him home, he's your dog, you just won't believe it yet.
Congrats>

I'd say there was a Border Collie in the woodshed. People who own one often own the other, so it is a pretty common and natural cross IMHO. It should be a very smart and teachable dog - LOTS of natural herding instinct.

I'll throw in another vote for part Border Collie. I had a few that stayed with me while a local shelter was overfull and they looked very similar to that dog. They were really smart and full of energy.
You should get him, he sounds like a great dog

I ment to say I have a blue heeler and also a red sable australian shephard. My heeler is almost 10 years old and didn't calm down till she was 3 or 4 years old. Now my aussie is only a year old and was calm from the day I got her. I use to have a red merle aussie but he passed away from a storke when he was 10. I lost him 2 years ago and still miss him. He was more human than dog

Looks like what's already been said:

Border collie and maybe heeler mix.

Just remember - these are working dogs. It's been said that border collies are the most intelligent of all breeds. They need to be kept busy!

I have a heeler mix that loves to herd people - especially those jogging.

Looks like a good dog from the pix. Good luck & keep him busy!

Notice how focused he is in the second pic on the helper? You can see in his posture and expression in how willing he is trying to please, and unsure if he is doing it right. He want's to do right, just needs someone to show him the ropes, be the leader and love him. I think he'd make a great dog!

I don't know what his background is, but I see a willing potential partner here. I've had and trained several purebreds but pound specials know they have been saved, and seem to have extra heart to give to those who have saved them.

Ok, I'll mix it up and say I see a little German Shorthair Pointer in there. He's cute! I hope he's the perfect dog for you, whatever kind he is.

I see a blue heeler/australian shepherd/malamute mix myself. Our heeler aussie cross has those same spots on the chest and stomach area but is black on most of his body. He has floppy -type short ears and was born with a "docked" tail. His Momma was a red heeler so comparing him to what she looks like doesn't give any indication of his breed background. I'm thinking the malanute for the fluffy, curved tail.

Mostly, I think he's "your" breed

My husband adopted an Australian Kelpie last summer and her tail curls up like that. She is black and white as well but her snout is a little different and she does not have the speckles on her at all. I'd put a pic on here but don't know how! From the looks of this one I would say a definite cross of Kelpie and something else. Kelpies do look similar to Border Collies by the way. A little info on ours may help you: She was a year old when we got her and had been in four different homes before ours. They were all "city" homes. Complaints of her being too hyper, whining, not liking being tied up, trying to "herd" the kids, biting at their ankles.....they were going to put her to sleep if we hadn't have taken her. We got her to quit biting at our ankles after just a few days and the rest of the stuff we do not have problems with because she has 33,000 acres to run on, she goes to work with my husband every day, she only barks at our other dogs when they are playing around or when there are deer or antelope she thinks she has to chase them. She has turned out to be the greatest dog. Very loyal to my husband especially. If she were human she would be the "other woman". LOL! I would take the dog and give it a good home and PLENTY of exercise. Good Luck!
