Instead of putting water in the freezer to make ice, put the milk in the freezer to make ice. Then as it melts in the refrigerator you can drink it. Milk freezes just fine.

No offense taken. The realitity of it is that I need to make ice & freeze some of my food supplies. No way getting around it. An ice house is impractical due to space limitations and harvesting issues. Can see it now, " This is the police ... step away from the creek (located behind city hall) NOW "!

Converting an old ice box into a battery storage sounds very cleaver.

When I built my house I added a root cellar. It is 50 degrees in there right now, so it would not be hard to keep a lot of food cold in there with minimal ice. I store all my canned food in there now. It will keep longer.
