Why don't you go out on your place(within sight of them) and do a little target practice? maybe they'd come over and you all could settle things among yourselves. Tell them you don't feel as comfortable with guns as they obviously do, but you don't want to be the only one not practicing with guns. I've found that most of the time, laying everything out in the open clears the air. I've felt uncomfortable going around hunters without a gun, so whenever i have to go out and talk to one of them, i carry a .357 revolver in a holster. Anybody looks at me funny, i point out that they all have guns, it's only fair for me to have one too. Everybody always admires it, and it breaks the ice.

If they have a range set up, why not see if you can practice with them? If you are helping make the noise it might be more fun for you.

Just my 2 cents. Try to get along because if theres nothing you can do, what else is left? Like others have said, might as well join them. Take your gun and go talk shooting and guns and sighting in. I think you will make friends and thats better for everyone. Who knows the next neighbor that moves in might get on here and ask what to do about you and those other two target practicing all the time and we'll say might as well join them. lol Eddie

That would be nice IF they would do that.

We had to have a talk with 3 boys about shooting their 22's on our land. Had to tell them no. One was a neighbor boy, just across the field from my horses. I told them to buy about 10 round bales and use that. They went to the neighbors and continued to shoot. At least they (I hope) are shooting into the hill. The thing is they are just shooting to shoot. No sighting the gun or using a target, just shooting.

No I haven't called the Sheriff, most likely wouldn't do any good. I have known the neighbor boy for about 10 years and gave him a good talking too, because he does know better.

What county are you in? How long have you lived there? Have you ever spoken to, waved, or acknowledged these neighbors? Are YOU a good neighbor? I ask that one because, if I were going to target practice for 3-4 hours a day, I'd probably be doing it to annoy someone!

Arkansas state law is, you cannot shoot across or hunt within 100 feet of the center of a city, county, state or federally maintained road or its right-of-way.

Where we live in Stone County, that is about the ONLY rule for shooting a gun!

a case of shooting like that, it's time for the parent to have a chat with the boy, he may just get bored of shooting at nothing and shoot at a tire or an animal.

This gal was asking for advice - really disappointed at the snarky "go back to the city comments"

Where I live you can shoot all you want, just as long as the bullets don't leave your property. I've got several neighbors that do lots of shooting. None that do it for 3 to 4 hours a day.

Well, you might try a foghorn early on the mornings they like to sleep in. I'm sure there must be something surplus out there you can get. Try that for awhile and wait for them to come up your driveway to complain.

Me, too. I thought we were supposed to be "neighbors" ourselves here at HT.

Go over and make friends, maybe they'll let you shoot too....
I met a real good friend the last place I lived because he heard me rip off a 500rd belt and called up and asked what was going on-I explained and invited him over and we shot together for the next 5yrs...
People like myself move to the sticks so we can shoot on our land without being bothered by hoplophobes and do gooders,it's part of real country life(unlike M.E. country life.)

You know this wouldn't be so much of a problem if the government would stop the insane practice of effectively banning sound suppressors. Even in England and areas of Europe where firearms are radically regulated it is considered uncouth and downright unneighborly to use and unsuppressed firearm and annoy your neighbors.

Perhaps the better solution is to write your legislator and lobby to have federal firearms laws amended so that target shooters and hunters could use noise suppressed firearms and you wouldn't have to hear the racket. I'd love to be able to have a deer season where instead of it sounding like Tet in 68 or Baghdad after Saddam was hanged there werer only muffled pops, supersonic cracks and the sound of rounds impacting deer.

Bottom line is that most shooters really want to be quiet. The government commands that we use noisy firearms to disturb you and damage our hearing. Take it up with them.

this is probably the best advice, get a couple dozen roosters and put them as close to their house as you can.

Those are fairly small lots of land, houses packed in fairly tight.

I have a mile to my North before the next house, over a mile to the East, a 1/2 mile to the South, ten miles to the West.

But if you were out rural then obviously we would not be so close to our neighbors.

I think that you could go make friends with your neighbors.

It sounds like you are not a gun person, so your options would be to either move closer in to the city, whether the laws would not allow neighbors to fire their weapons.

Or to move out rural, where you have no neighbors for ten mile radius, then if your neighbors did fire weapons you would not hear it.

Understand, but city living and country living are separate ways of life. I don't suppose a neighbor in town would like it too well if I moved next door with my milk cow, hog & poultry .... it's probably against the law.

Same song, different verse. If it isn't against the law to shoot firearms in a safe manner on a person's property, the neighbors shouldn't complain.

I would bet that your comment would read better if the "not" was not there.

Three or four hours is a long time... like EasyDay said, maybe there trying to get under your skin. Could be lots of reasons... THEY don't want any neighbors, of any sort... whatever.

It's a two way street. I've had 'issues' with one neighbor... made the mistake of asking them to stop... the next day it sounded like a war. Let it slide... a few months later, they were down fishing, nice and peaceful... I went up as close as I could (and still be on my land) and fired off the .300winmag. They burst over to see what the hiatus was going on. Told em I was just having some fun... hoped I didn't interrupt their quiet repose... Gun fire from that neighbor reverted back to a few days a year and hunting season.

The rich folks in the gazillion dollar development are far enough away I rarely hear them... but when I do hear a lawnmower it irks me something fiercesome. My shooting doesn't bother them a bit... if they ever complain I'll hollar about the ski boats and lawn mowers. Of course, my roosters make lots of racket 'occasionally'.

My advice. Get to know your neighbors. Ask if you can join in on the shooting. Invite them over for bbq. Show them around, what you're trying to do with the place... and show them your animals. It's a lot harder to be mean to a nice neighbor, than it is to one fresh from the 'burbs and callin' the law every time a gun is fired.

Asking 'me' to only shoot at certain hours would only work, for strictly shooting for fun sessions. I pop off a few rounds at all times of the day and night... my dear deceased dog would only 'break' and come home, if I popped off a few rounds on the .22 pistol. And coons, possums, and other varmints rarely work on a schedule.

You'll have to live with it, or move. Hopefully, your animals will get used to it...

I've spent 3-4-5 hours at a time shooting many times. Working up loads, testing, practicing for a competition, trying to shoot a tiny group. Maybe they are just having a great time playing with their toys.

I hear town is nice, and no shooting allowed.

I agree that it could have been worded differently but I also have to agree with the sentiment. Why do people move to an area then complain about what's there?

I'm more disappointed by the many, many responses in this and other threads that suggest a get even approach before actually trying to solve a problem on a more neighborly way. I can feud with the best of them but it's certainly not my first course of action (in most cases).
