Paint slows them down some, but doesn't stop them. Their favorite place to bore holes at my place is the tractor barn. Every single rafter had holes in them. I spent a whole day filling holes, killing bees, and painting rafters a few years ago. The holes are less common now, but are still appearing.

The ones you see that act agressive are the males, and they won't sting you. But the females inside the holes will!

Get the bees to join a union and they will slow down and possibly stop all work.

I don't have carpenter bees but every summer we get alot of wasps & deer flys. Got sick of them so I bought a couple of electric fly swatters. We make a game out of it. Over hand swing worth 1 point, back hand swing worth 2 points, ect... All swings must result in a kill or no points. Who ever looses has to haul the wood for the next day or do the dinner dishes or what ever you get the idea. LOL

I don't mind the bees, but the pecker trouble can make you miserable.

a friend

used an electronic pest device. The kind that puts out the noises they can't stand. She had honey bees in the eaves of her home. You have to get the kind of device that is good for insects, not just mice. Wal Mart had them a few weeks ago in their garden center.

what ever you do do not ignore them!!! when i worked for an exterminator last year we went to a house that the owner ignored the carpenter bees for just 2-3 years and there must have been near 800 holes in his house and in his case the only thing to do is replace all the wood siding and any bad damaged wood under the siding.
good luck

We took the idea of the electric zapper/tennis raquet & my son played beemiton yesterday. He had a ball!! Once he hit them he would check them & make sure they were dead. He didn't mention playing video games once .... gotta love life on a farm!
