Just a post to let you know Milt and I are alive and well.
Very busy on the Homestead though.
Milking one goat and bottle feeding one kid right now plus trying to keep old Molly alive.
she was just too old to have kidded. Her doeling is the one I am bottle feeding as Mom makes almost no milk anymore.
I have pumped close to a gal of CMPK in Molly to keep her going.
It hasn't done her much good at all. I am now giving her RedCell Iron and vitamin tonic and it is working much better.
We just had shearing day for the alpacas and I sold two of them that day. Just three left.
One is a stud though and I am going to have to get him cut as he is attacking Jack too much. It will be too hot for eather of them to survive a fierce fight so He has been warned. The knife is a commin!
Also Milt has made arangements for the Senior Citizens center folks to come here for a day at the homestead every third Thursday of the month.
He has aranged for me to make soap, milk, spin, make cheese, let the Seniors work in my garden and all that stuff.
I am hoping we can Milk Saturday AM and drive over for the day and Milk again late when we get home. At this point that is the best I can figure.
We will be at Baker Creek if we don't forget though.
Hope to see some of you there.

Bill -- You can come the same way you came last time up until you get past Harrison (Arkansas) on the 62-65 Bypass -- then instead of staying on65 when you get just past Bellefonte you take 62/412 (it will be a left turn) to Yellville - on the east side of Yellville you will take state highway 14 south...just past a bump in the road named Mull you will take Hwy 268 (Will Bill's Store/Canoe Rentals/trail ride horses will be at the intersection) to Buffalo Point -- at the Ranger Station at the park entrance - turn right - that road will curve down to group camping -- there is a huge parvillon across from group camping.
If you find yourself going down a hill to a stop sign left/right intersection - you've gone the wrong way - you are heading to multi-individual camping and the river. Go back up the hill and when you can see the Ranger's station - curve around to the left - (opposite direction from Ranger's Station).
I'm not sure how well cell phones work there -- but since I don't own one someone else will have to help you with a phone number.
Beth, and Corky -- no matter if it's just for a short visit on Saturday it will be great to see ya'll.
Just 32 more days to go
Hugs,
Marlene

down to 31?
wow
only like 20 days of school left, i think, and i'm only in class 18 of them (field trips on 2 days) then the last day is that field day stuff. ugh.
we work 2 days the next week, then i'm done except for summer training days and such. and i'm attending at least 1 2day class, and i don't know how long another one i'll have to go to is, or when it is, but i have to go, last i heard.
the goat herd is agrowing. got rid of 3 useless wethers last sat, had twins born this sat. at least 2 more does due in the next 2 weeks, and 2 more are starting to show signs, but that'll be it this year, unless the buck gets the 2 rescue does when they are healthy enough to have a heat and take.
still trying to figure out what to bring food wise.

If we make it there will be 2 adults and 2 kids. Trying to get vacation time for the boyfriend who works every weekend. I have finally found someone who has the homesteading mindset and it has been such a blessing to have someone to dream big with me.
I used to make leather things, but I don't have any tools anymore. I would love to bring stuff to make some moccasins though. Trying to think of something I could do to help out or teach someone. I do love to cook......

no, corky, they were some that i took from someone as a "favor" that just never grew (not enough mama milk, i think) so we just gave them to someone who wanted some "brush and pet goats". they'll have a good home, wouldn't have been worth butchering, and i no longer have to feed them
now to get rid of 3 does that we really don't need.....
merry medic, it'd be great to see you.
like i said, i could show my no-cook soap; i can also crochet. that's about it.

MerrryMedic - hopefully the new boyfriend will be able to get the weekend off. But please don't be concerned about making the trip without him -- us independent homesteading women manage to have a pretty good time even if our husbands/boyfriends/whatevers can't make it.
Laura's Jesse and I will be making gumbo - I'm hoping to have his first batch of roux turn out great - if it's okay with him, will be happy to share the technique with others. That reminds me that I need to make copies of the dutch-oven recipes I got at the last dutch-oven cookoff I attended (have not yet got of the courage to take part in the cookoff) at the Jasper/Newton County Elk Festival - I think I promised some to Corky.
Only 30 days left to go....
Hugs,
Marlene

Would you like some file' powder to go with the gumbo? File is from sassafras leaves, and does the same thing for Cajun cooking that cilantro does for Mexican cooking - kind of gives it a green flavor & a little bit of spice. Eric makes a batch up every year, we'd be happy to bring some with . . .
Two more weeks & I'm FREE!!! (at least of classes - Laura, I can completely sympathize with you )

If I wasn't living so far with the cost of gas, I would love to come! Up until a year I ago, I went to Gilbert every summer for a week. Not having paid vacations anymore really bites...

Yes, please bring along some of your home-dried file` powder. My friends, and family from S. Louisiana usually keep me supplied but I've never had fresh/homemade file`. I might have to give making my own a try. We have lots of sassafra here -- they might as well make themselves useful, besides being something to mow around.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Corky and Milt will figure out how to make it for atleast a one day visit to Laura. And I need to get in touch with Joe and Shelia and let them know when and where.
29 more days to go...Don't know which I'm getting more excited about the new job or the campout...better work on the new job first since that is less then two weeks away.
Hugs,
Marlene

Good morning Marlene.
It is fun trying to decipher what you mean from what you say sometimes.
I love you hon!
Or did you really mean you think I should make a one day trip to Lauras?
I think she would like that. If she would give me a free buckling or two I might just have to do that. LOL!

Corky - have you been talking to Husband? I get the impression that he has that understanding what I mean problem sometimes also -- he on the other hand says exactly what he means using proper grammar and spelling. Hopefully you figured out I was just agreeing with Laura - used to instead of too again didn't I.
Hobbes -- where there's a will there's away ... maybe you could find a couple of others between you and Buffalo Point to carpool with...I'm trying to think who is was who said they would like to come, and I think they live in Mississippi -- 1/2 price on gasoline expense would be a deal right?
Only 28 more days to go....
Marlene
