Laura -- That is so kind of you to offer, first I'll check with Husband and see how he did on his online search (he likes to surprise me), and I think there is a leather store in Eureka Springs I might be able to make it to before the campout; if those two fail I really would appreciate your doing that fore me

lonelyfarmgirl -- is that a test to see who remembers the time someone brought monstrous sweet potatoes to one of our get togethers -- I bet LaDonna will remember if she ever returns from being missing in action around #here.

That's true lonelyfarmgirl - LaDonna did take the picture...but I was thinking about how much she loves roasted sweet potatoes

Just 40 more days until May 30th !

I just read in the paper yesterday that Harrison (which you will drive thru if you are coming from the North) on Hwy. 65 is having it's first annual Town Yard Sale that same weekend...I might be a little later then I intended on arriving at Buffalo Point on Friday morning.

Hugs,
Marlene

Wow, that seems really high to me - I checked Crazy Crow Trading Post, one of my favorites places for that type of craft here:
http://www.crazycrow.com/store/
They've got buckskins for at least half of that - they'll really fit to your feet.
Hope that helps!

Laura -- remember to put something in the tents to hold them down while they are being aired...oops nevermind...I sure the kids haven't forgotten what happens with tents not held down -- sorry couldn't resist.

Only 37 more days to go...

I was wondering where everyone is also Laura, if that is in reference to responses here...I'm getting feedback mainly about not being able to justify the gas expense to and from, I can certainly be understanding of that...can of difficult to work something into your budget when you can't even be certain how much it will be one week to the next.

We'll just have to have an extra good time for those who can't make it -- we'll do it for them, right

36 more days to go

Hugs,
Marlene

everyone needs a vacation day now and then. the expense is a big deal, yeah, but how much is a relaxing weekend with friends worth? for us, it is worth the expense of 2 vehicles driving about 200 miles, give or take a few each way. i look forward to these excursions because it gives me a chance to interact with someone other than okies, and i love being up there. i look forward to the stories, the campfire, the relaxation, my kids getting positive feedback from other people. it's a great time, and while i do truly understand the gas expense being an issue, there is that credit card commercial that basically states some things are priceless-like some of these experiences have been for me.

where's dennis, don and ladonna????

Very well put Laura -- I hope others needing just that little bit of a push towards making the committement to come spend the weekend with us will also agree that even in the worse of times we need to give ourselves all the opportunities to be with people - who are all in this together. Just the therapy of being able to share in a relaxed setting what's going on in our lives is worth at least $6.00/gallon right?

Dennis and Don are spending a lot of time with the daughter and granddaughter, and their new business venture -- they are definately planning on being there. LaDonna is still without a computer, and her only access to one fast enough is at the library which she isn't able to get into much with her work schedule and such...she just found out the dates and will get back to us on if she can get those days off from work. She's also busy with her passion of photography - has another wedding to shoot soon.

We really need to work on getting Corky and Milt to join us...hint hint.

There were several other people who were hoping to come from earlier in the post and the one picking the date -- should would be great if they all could make it also.

Ozarkcat -- for my first attempt at leathercrafting -- I'm thinking of going with the lower end priced buckskin from that sight you recommended -- it was a great sight by the way -- lots and lots of interesting stuff you probably can not find very many places.
When I order the buckskin - should I also order the stuff you sew them together with? I know it's not called thread...what's it call and does it matter what weight or anything?

35 more days to go

Marlene, you can either order the simulated/artificial sinew that they have (doesn't matter the weight, you can probably get by with the smallest quantity they have, although it is really handy stuff to have around), or use a doubled heavy thread (think hand-quilting from Coats & Clarke). I would definitely go ahead & order a glover's needle from them if you don't have one - they get the good type that actually cut the leather just enough to pass the rest of the needle through. I will try to pick up a few extras at the leather store here in town before then, too, to have a few extras on hand.

I'll probably toss together another bucket of fry bread mix, since that seemed to be a hit last time. Haven't thought much farther than that yet. I'm going to be out of school at that point for a few weeks, so that'll make things easier. Haven't been posting lately as have been getting caught back up after surgery & getting into the swing of things for finals - what fun - I'll be so happy to be done with my BS next spring!

I won't be making it, so at least those of you who are camera-shy won't mind..... My 3rd shift coworker is taking all that week off....and while I don't mind the drive, I don't think I want to do it after getting off work at midnight or later, and trying NOT to hit any deer{especially in my new car!!}....I've had more than my share of THAT, I can tell you............

Thanks for letting us know LaDonna -- from what you've said about your new car and all it's bells and whistles if the deer is still amongst the living he might deserve a thank you note

Now, maybe Dennis and Don will check in and let us know if they are going to be able to make it? Along with Blue Greko (I never spell her nick right), Frenchie, BigRockPile...and the others who mentioned coming...hint hint.

How many goats are being milked at Corky and Milts? Maybe they could bring 'em along and give us a lesson or two in goat milking.

Speaking of whenwe will be arriving ... I've been doing the happy "I've got a job...I've got a job..." dance since yesterday...which is really great news...I start in two weeks...which will mean I'll only be there a couple of weeks by the campout weekend. Might not be a great idea to ask for a day off within my 90 day probation period. I figure if I pack up on Thursday night, work Friday -- I should be able to be a Buffalo Point before dark on Friday night...giving it my best shot.

Just 33 more days to go...

Hugs,
Marlene
