what kind of shovel?

Wether you replace a wooden handle or buy a new shovel, make sure the wood grain runs up and down on the front and back of the handle and not on the sides. Might be easier to tell by looking at the end of the handle. The grain running front to back is what is strongest. My 2 cent Eddie

Yeah I made my own. They add some weight but I think that is more than made up for my the strength they give.

I have a fiberglass handle on a big maul, the fiberglass seemed to kinda wisp up if you hit it on something (yeah, I know your not supposed to hit the handle), but it seems like I was getting 'glass splinter in my hands when not wearing gloves.

P.S. These days I prefer the bucket on the front of the tractor, steel handle w/hydraulics for most stuff.
