I had a disagreement with a poster on a thread that was later deleted, so he sent me a very ugly pm. I didn't respond.

Hi! I am betting this is an e-mail provider or Web Browser or just plain "computer" problem. I get my PM messages as well as HT messages automatically in my e-mail. That e-mail shows the message that was sent. but, if a person wants to reply to it, then we must get on the net, and some have troubles with that. I know I do at times as my computer is trying to turn belly up and float to the surface! LOL So, Sometimes I can't reply even if I would like to.

That said I've met some really nice people through PM and like the feature a lot. I do want them to have my e-mail addy though so we can talk back and forth without having to go on the 'net to do so.

YOu will work out the bugs..just keep trying and be patient.

Happy Spring...the hummers are back!

I check from time to time to see if I have any pms, but I'm often busy and check the site for content and overlook whether or not I have a pm. So sometimes it can be a couple of weeks before I discover I have a message waiting.

I respond to pm's that aren't personal attacks, creepy, or just plain ignorant.

I figure it's better to be gracious and NOT point out how ridiculous a person is being? Than to reply and point it out... Why start a range war? I've been single for 15 years and a farmer all my life. I prefer to sit and wait and watch (and carry on my life as I see fit)...

Besides, you can't usually tell the tone of the PM - unless it's a "HOW DARE YOU?"...

So I'd rather err as being cordially quiet...

I check my PMs every time I come into the site. I read them, and usually send a courtesy response immediately. Very occasionally, a response isn't required, but I prefer to at least acknowledge that I've received it.

Now and then I'm moved by a particular post to send a PM, rather than express feelings in the public thread - it's usually in cases of bereavement or similar - and I don't expect responses to those, but most people do reply.

I've never received an abusive, or even unkind, PM, and I'm fairly sure I've never sent such a one.

Once or twice, I've tried to send a PM, and it has failed. In such cases, it helps to open a new thread saying 'Myrtle, I tried to PM you but your mail box is full' or something similar.

strawhousefarm, I am new and have never received or sent a PM. I have a pretty tough hide though and realize that what I have to say won't be too important until I reach some magic post number.....like maybe 1,247 posts to my name. Nah, just kidding. Well, maybe not totally.........lol.

I always reply to my messages at HT and to people I know on my home email. I never respond to any messages from strangers. You can get into a lot of trouble downloading "Free whatever".

HT people have their HT name ID's on the members list. Those I reply to if needed.

I PM'D one gentleman on the gardening site, and didnt get a answer, so I just figured he though I was rude to PM him without asking first. But, I occasionally will PM someone, and I'm always thrilled when they answer--I figure I've just made another friend. But. yes, I check every day.

I use my PM box all the time Good way to communicate with people that are selling or buying items. I also use it to ask specific how-to questions of people who have posted things that get me thinking.

I don't. I find the private message system cumbersome and a duplicate of email. For public messages there is the forums. For private messages someone can email me. Much easier.
