We had a Deep Rock back in the 1970s, used it for our well and drilled through over 20 feet of limestone. A friend used it for two more, then after a few years we sold it. Wish we still had it, though. I knew a fellow that drilled through almost 200 feet of rock with his. He would drill a few feet every weekend, then fix up his bits during the week for the next round of weekend drilling. I would agree with most of the comments so far from people who have used them successfully. Be sure to learn what to do to seal around your casing when you are done, and do it properly, so you don't contaminate your aquifer.

Hey.

How many inches can you go with the drill/casing on the do it yourself rigs? 5" is customary in my area...

Rocky - Pretty dang big!!! It's just about taking your time and stepping it just like the big boys. Drill a 2" pilot hole, ream it to 3 1/2", ream it to 5" ream it to 6 1/2". The bigger you get the more mud you will have to pump so bigger pump. obviously eventualy that little 1 1/4" drill pipe ain't gonna push enough fluid so there's a limit, but I have no idea were that is (it would depend on geologic material, you could go wider in a sandy/silt than in a gravely/rock)

Guy in yuma drilled a 10" down to 60' with one of the DIY drills just had to make his own tools.

The well is only about 30 feet deep. My brothers and I pounded in a 2-inch pipe with a pointed well screen. We used a post-driver to drive the well point. A deep-well pump like ours shown in the photo below, will pump water up from 200 to 250 feet below the surface of the ground. The deeper the water, the harder it is to pump it because you are lifting the weight of the water column with each pump.

I don't really know yet. I just received my lit from Deep Rock and will be calling them tomorrow.

I'm hoping that they can hook me up with the rig that can put a 6" casing over 200'. I'll let you know what I come up with.
