Our family built a log home kit from Northeastern Log Homes. Not sure if they would be cost effective for you since they are in Maine, although they do have one in Kentucky too. The one we built was a kit, and just 7 of us (2 adults & 5 kids) built it from the foundation up in 7 months, that was of course working on it full time. As for building experience we had some, but only in the DIY realm. The shell itself was pretty basic up till the roof, oh how I remember the Ridge Beam Day!! :O) But there was instructions and we were able to figure it out. Most companies have all kinds of styles, we sketched out what we wanted and this company took that and produced plans & a kit just like what we had drawn. Everything was numbered and it went together just like Lincoln Logs only with a much heavier sledge! It was quite an experience, we have over 300 pictures of the progress and when we look at them we are amazed at what our Lord enabled us to do.
