Folks have been inquiring about this so I'm bumping it up

Bwana 05/17/08 05:16 AM

Hi Cyndi!

Can't really commit yet to that date but I SHOULD be able to make it, hopefully for the entire weekend. You guys are the best! Thanks for being so gracious to host this event each year. You are definitely an inspiration to those of us who aspire to be more self-sufficient.

Cloverbud 05/18/08 02:28 AM

I got my schedule today, and we will be there with bells on, all weekend!! WOOT!!!

Doug is coming for at least one day, and my horse-training friend Kathy will try to come on Saturday. :D

MullersLaneFarm 05/18/08 08:03 PM

Dave - It wouldn't be the same without you. Hope you can make it.

Yay CB!! WOOT! Doug & GF plus Kathy.

Just a month away!

Phantomfyre 05/19/08 10:35 AM

I am *hoping* to make it out this year! (Fingers crossed that the schedule works out.)

How do most folks do this - do they come and camp or go back and forth?

Disaster (or major inconveniences) do happen, and so I think it would be great if you came and shared your demonstration. :)

Ah, yes, we'll be there.

Phantomfyre, most of us camp out. (I remember someone ;) sleeping in the bed of her truck last year!)

It's a lot of fun! Sure hope you can make it!!

I thought we were anonymous.

Hey! You're no doody-face!

I really hope you can make it. We have such fun!

Michele, I'm looking forward to seeing your children - all of them, from 20 on down!

Madame, I want to do the book exchange, but all the books are in storage!! ARGH!!

Bwana, be there or we'll come and TP your place!

Nomad, how cool to be able to spend more time with you and yours!

Dawndra, I am bummed that you can't make it. Always wanted to meet you...

Don't know who asked about tanning (can't page back), but maybe Nick can bring some hides in process. I know that some need to be fleshed, and I'm sure he'd like the help...er, be happy to provide the hands on experience. heehee...

RockinB and gang -- looking forward to meeting up again!!

Anyone I missed, I'll catch you at Muller's!

Pony!

Cloverbud 05/20/08 04:24 AM

Amazing G and I were pioneers and slept in our covered wagon (disguised as a Ford Explorer!) Another gal did sleep in the (open) bed of her pick-up.

This year, we're going to be Indians in our tepee. The covered wagon was too short for this tall gal. :p

RockinB, I have to meet you folks this year, seein's as we're neighbors 'n all.

And I'm looking forward to catching up with everyone else. :D

MullersLaneFarm 05/20/08 07:36 AM

I believe it was Kathy that slept in the bed of her truck ....

CB - you guys going to bring a tipi (or a tent?) It's been a few years since I've had a tipi in my yard. Paul lived in a tipi for a while back when he was a young'un

Only a month from now!!! Yippeee!

Cloverbud 05/20/08 07:12 PM

Our tipi would more commonly be known as an orange 2 person pup tent, but when you're Indians having a grand adventure...;)

BAmaBubba 05/20/08 10:01 PM

my wife and I talked about it last year but she'd just had her surgery. I'd LOVE to come. You'd be hard pressed to tear me and the kids away from the Jerseys and the blacksmithing. Shanna, however, would be glued to Cyndi for the knitting and such :)

If you need something bigger, let me know, and I will pull an extra out of storage when we get our gear. :)

There are always plenty of fiber artists here for the weekend. I want to make sure I give a soapmaking demo this year.

Does this mean all y'all are coming this year???

You don't have any of those left, do you??

Think I'm going to get there early and case da joint...

Then I'm going to get even with Kathy and Dan... BWAhahaha!

Pony!

freegal 05/24/08 06:14 AM

I've got the date noted on my calendar since the 4-H horse show is on a different weekend this year - yay! I am hoping to join you for at least one day. I would love to see the soapmaking demo!

MullersLaneFarm 05/27/08 08:37 AM

I'm tentively planning on the soapmaking on Saturday.

Pony 05/27/08 09:03 AM

I told Nick about the tanning, and how you sorta kinda suggested that maybe he could do a demo.

At first, he kinda balked, but once we talked about it, it seems that maybe he might.

Now I am looking for a bag of finished pelts that is supposed to be around here, but could be at the storage locker. If it's there, the skins won't be unearthed until we're out at the farm. WAY too much stuff to look through!

Pony!

MullersLaneFarm 05/27/08 12:00 PM

Very cool! If you can find it great! If not, that's okay too.

There are a few hides in the freezer from the last butchering. We could get half of those started, then bring them out and show how to do the beginning and the middle of the process. Of course, anyone who wants to help flesh would get some hands-on experience. :)

Cloverbud 06/15/08 02:56 PM

Pssst!

It's Next Weekend!!!:dance::dance::dance:

MullersLaneFarm 06/18/08 12:30 PM

Just a couple more days!

They're calling for 70% chance of no rain on Sat...

Madame 06/18/08 01:30 PM

Cyndi,

Could you post directions on how to get there? I can get as far as Dixon, but don't remember after that. Thanks.

MullersLaneFarm 06/18/08 03:16 PM

From Dixon. I'll give you 2 options, since I'm not sure which way you came in last time.

I-88 west to exit 40 (IL-40)

turn LEFT onto IL-40 south about a mile to THOME RD (first street on right after airport)

turn RIGHT (west) onto THOME, one mile to T-intersection with BUELL RD

turn LEFT (south) onto BUELL RD. start counting the roads on the right. 3rd road is KNIEF RD

turn RIGHT (west) onto KNIEF, one mile to HICKORY HILLS RD

turn LEFT (south) onto HICKORY HILLS RD.

turn right before you reach the dead end. We'll be there!

If you want to take Rt 2, directions are basically the same. RT 2 west to IL 40 South.

cindylou13 06/18/08 04:00 PM

Hi there! Our names are Jerry & Cindy. We live in Sheffield IL.. We met a couple at the Sheffield Homecomeing last week-end that told us about the homesteading web site. I do not remember their names but they told us about an event this coming week-end in Tampico??? Do you know who that would be? They have donkey's and horses.. I was so happy to find others in the area interested in the country life like we are. We have 5 acres and have 4 horses, chickens, ducks, cats, dogs, mini horse and a baby colt!! 1 day old! His name is Nugger. A nice looking Pinto. Any info you could give me would be appreciated!

whitehouse 06/18/08 05:58 PM

Rick and I will be there I just pm you. I will bring stuff and do painting instructions and answere any questions. Hope someone will be interested. i AM TRYING TO GET RICK TO BRING THE donkey so he would be easy to go through harnessing on since he is small and you can see it up close and personal. please understand we just learned how to harness so don't laugh if his tail ends up with the head stall. I would live to learn how to do everything. if someone offers to teach me anything I am alway the one first in line. and of course soap making is #1 since I have drove cindi crazy asking about it.
My friends are all going to a harness pull week end at jubile and are mads that we are not going. they have tried to put the quilt trip on us but no way, i am going to the homesteading.

whitehouse 06/18/08 06:00 PM

It was us whitehouse. i just posted! what is the chance. are you coming to the homesteading weekend. It would not be far and cindi will give you directions.

whitehouse 06/18/08 06:03 PM

Cindi, Rick just found the directions and figured out what we did wrong. we will try again friday evening when we get to the cabin. see you then!

Pony 06/18/08 08:04 PM

Hey!

Nick and I will be bringing a rabbit for butchering demo on Saturday. Also trying to get organized to bake bread in the dutch oven.

What's the vegetable situation looking like? Is anyone bringing one, or shall I plan to bring something?

Pony!

Cloverbud 06/19/08 01:36 AM

I'm bringing a rooster with a worn-out welcome. Annette mentioned bringing some cookies and such. Should I make a batch of 'tater salad? and rhubarb cobbler ingredients?

Gotta remember the books for the book swap, too.

And the wheel...and the wool...and...and...!

Amazing G and I are *very* excited!!

She got new barn boots just for the occasion!;)

Pony 06/19/08 05:06 AM

OH! And we talked to DZ -- he's going to be there Saturday, and will help us out with scything again. (I just can't seem to get into the "swing" of it...")

MullersLaneFarm 06/19/08 09:20 AM

DZ is also bringing a Blue Slate tom who's being a jerk to his other toms.

If no one wants him, we may end up making jerky out of him

He should bring a couple of those big bully guineas of his. I'd happily learn how to butcher fowl on those. They are so mean to the other birds!

whitehouse 06/19/08 03:52 PM

I am bring elvis my donkey with cart so we can give rides. he just got shaved and is so cute. For those looking to learn how to harness he will be great since you can see him he's so short. I will also bring my paints and such for demos. I do hope soap is on Saturday, it is my only day. I work at 12 on sunday. I want to see the tanning and I will get my hands dirty, where do i start scrapping to tan. luann

Cloverbud 06/20/08 04:58 AM

Rumor is there will be some yummy bbq on Saturday. I know, because I started the rumor! :D

nduetime 06/20/08 11:40 AM

Guess What!!!!

I am coming....yippee, yippee, yippee...sorry I just got sooo happy.

I am driving down myself with a pop-up and three of my dd children, including the one who so inadvertently interrupted our visit with you last year with his birthday!

Cyn, do ya think Paul might be willing to help me do whatever I need to do with the pop-up???? Please... I am not versed in the art at all. David is not going to make it b/c of work and figures it best to be here for the livestock anyway. He sends his wishes for a good time and nice weather.

I just found out this am so I am going to do some cooking/baking and we will see you saturday! Bringing the spinning wheel with hopes of more instructions(have not touched it in months) I am a little nervous about the drive...ask Tonya/Cloverbud about me and directions sometime,,not good.

YAY!! Sister Trish will be there!!

Are you coming on Friday or Saturday? Nick and I can help with the set up -- heck, I feel pretty safe in saying that all of us will be happy to pitch in!

Delighted that you can make it!!

Pony!

Rcrewofmany 06/20/08 01:38 PM

At this point in time it looks like we won't be able to make it. Who knew we would be doing our addition this weekend! If we run out of things to do, or lumber, we will show up. Right now we are on a roll and don't want to stop.

Praying the rain away this weekend!!! We need dry weather to finish up :)

Have a great weekend all!! We will miss you all dearly!

Michele

nduetime 06/20/08 01:52 PM

I am pretty sure we will come down saturday morning...I think...Hmmm, maybe tonight, oh golly, I just am not sure, thought I was but I lost it!

Oh Michele, I am so sorry you won't be there. I was really looking forward to introducing Jared (8), Emily (12), and Isaac (will be 1 on the 24th) to your children. Perhaps you can sort of jump over when you need to take a break? If not, of course we understand but will miss seeing you.
