Just wanted to update and say that we will be finding out what the carpet is made of and what is under it tomorrow. The closing date for this house (where we live now) is April 29 and we will be granting immediate possession then. So...we're starting the work tomorrow. I'm delighted!

Looking for some commercial grade carpeting? Have I got a deal for you!

I'm planning on taking mine out and replacing it with linoleum to cut down on the dust in my house. In a weeks time I can write my name on any horizontal surface and there's a good chance there is asbestos in the dust.

Well...the carpet is some sort of man-made junk, but the backing is (I'm assuming) jute. I guess we'll roll it up and see if someone else wants it. It is so utterly, horridly filthy! I used my Dyson Animal sweeper last night (after using the Shop Vac to get the big hunks) and filled the canister 3 times with cat hair in just one bedroom.

The upstairs just has rugs with pads underneath and I'm pretty sure those are all wool. The one that is in the main bedroom used to be in the living room. It is in my grandparents' wedding pictures that were taken in the living room in the very early 1930's. I can't believe what great shape it is in for being so old. I'm just thrilled with it!
