Jim, I totally hear you on this. I agree that self-sufficiency is to try to owe as little as possible or none at all and that there is this popular mentality that we can & should have what we want now and pay later without considering the consequences of that choice.
We are not looking to have all those farms tools right away - only we want to live on the farm and have a cow or two along with some chicken and our own garden for few years and grow from there. The dream we have is eventual and spread out over the course of several years - not immediate.
Jim, I thank you for being honest with me and making sure I get it that this is a big risk and to consider all possibilities and consequences of this big move.
Everyone else - Cabin Fever, Morning Owl, Quiet mountain farmer, Pink carnation, Rose, Rambler, Bluejuniterfarm, Eddie Buck, Quint, Pig lady, Indypartridge, Big Dave & Matthew Lindsay - thank you all, it is nice to see people out there that understands me and know where I am coming from and to have that support. I agree that it is good to after your dream and yet do this carefully and be prepared for hard times ahead.
Indypartridge, I'm glad to hear that it made a big difference in your children. And how you may be in debts, live on tight budget and have a long drive but yet you all are still happy where you are. That is what we are looking forward to - maybe a hard life but one we can be happy with. This may sound silly but I feel that is what we are here for. To live simply as homesteaders and grow our own food and enjoy each other and our farm animals and continue our quest for truth of our Creator. I am sorry to hear of your and your wife's difficult time with breast cancer. Is everything okay now?
Piglady, I hear you. We could find a cheap mobile home to put on our land and go from there.
Okay so it is all about timing - we'll know when time comes to go. Not too early but not so late either! :0)
Thank you, everyone!
