And yes, employers have until 1/31 to MAIL the paperwork.
Doesn't matter when it comes, as far as I am concerned it will have no effect on the economy whatsoever. In the total economy, $150 billion is not much. It's like a band aid on a cancer. I'll either bank mine or apply it to my land loan. (BTW, I have seen interview after interview with folks about what they'll do with it, and almost all of them say pay off past bills or bank it.)

We usually have investment tax paperwork trickle in as late as mid-February, and then we usually cart it all off along with our year's worth of Quicken records to the accountant in March. That guy has done it for 16 years, and although we basically have it all done for him except filling in the blanks, it is his knowledge and those CPA initials on the forms we are after.

Texican, they threatened us when they SAID we underpaid due to a 1099 we didn't get last year. I tossed the stuff at my CPA, and he took care of it. No charge, from him or the government. Actually got another refund! Filed an amended report, with an apology letter. It's good to have "people."

I don't understand why more people don't feel this way. All I see are people bragging about how much money they are getting back, and I'm thinking, scheeeesh, you really wanted the govt. to have your money instead of you??

I'm not a big supporter of the rebate portion of this proposed bill, but:

1. 1% of GDP is, in fact, a lot.

2. Paying off debt will have a stimulative effect nearly as great as new purchasing, and banking money will have a favorable effect on the credit supply.

My son got his refund, and has paid me back the money I loaned him last year.

We do our best to make sure that we get no refund if we can, but it doesn't always work that way. <shrug> As others have already mentioned, it's MY money, and I don't take kindly to the government using it without my permission AND without paying me interest. God knows they'd charge ME interest if I didn't make "my" payments on the legalized thievery...

Oh, well, not the time nor the thread nor the forum to go off on that subject.

I'm just glad my kid finally paid me back.

I have our W2's but still waiting on interest statement. Will file as soon as I get that but you guys who have them already must be getting a loan and paying interest on them. I will wait on any I get back. If I get any back it will go toward paying a bill.

Maybe, Maybe not. Last year I got my W-2 the first week of Janurary, filed my taxes myself the first day the IRS accepted efile for the year and had the IRS direct deposit in my account before Feb 1st.

I'd much rather get a refund than have to pay out the you know what like I did a couple years ago!

I am self employed and do not pay any taxes all year. I get the earned income credit and they take out social security taxes from that. I still get over 3,000.00 back this year. If I had a job where they were taking out taxes you can bet they would be as low as possible every week. Yes better I have my money than them.

I get large returns just about every year. This is due the EITC and the three kids. See I have them take a little out of the check each week so I don't have to pay. I literally come within dollars of paying taxes. For instance last year I came within 15 dollars of not qualifying for the EITC and that was with a 6 week layoff. So I got back like 3 grand. If i had made that "extra" 15 bucks I would have only got back like 150.00.

This is me not she.

That's news to me, since that is exactly what I did this year. I didn't get any kind of loan to have my taxes already.

I used to get refunds, but anymore, we usually have to pay. I changed how much money was taken out as I would rather have the money throughout the year rather than wait on my refund from the government where they don't pay you for interest. Another reason we have to pay is making more money now than we used to.

However, alot of people can't discipline themselves to save throughout the year, so this government collecting interest free refund can make sense. However, if I were to get a refund it would go into 1 of two places - towards our tractor loan to help get it payed off, or else into a ROTH IRA.

But as many people, I'm still waiting on paperwork to arrive.

For those wanting to e-file, as long as you make under 50,000 then you can file for free (your federal papers that is). That is what we did last year and this year as well.

It does make it easy and quick as they will either Direct Deposit or check it to you.

Just head to the irs site and click anyone of the companies that offer it. We use the OLT one due to a coin flip last year and liked it so used it again this year.

Only thing you have to do is after the IRS accepts your return, print off one paper and sign it then mail it in.

Really easy.

Looks like we are going to pay. My husband claims as much as he can so that we have more monthly from his check. He may have claimed one to many though...we'll see. So far it looks like we will owe anywhere from 250-750. Much better than when we were both working and paying 1800 a year. I enjoy having more in each check than a big refund.
