We aren't leaving the 4-H program but my son does not do animal projects. I am glad that last year was my daughters final 4-H year as she was in the horse project and did show. But, she is continuing to show and no one seems to know how this will affect the upcoming show season. She is leasing a horse at a training barn and the owner does not want to comply and has stated that she will only show out of state, if need be.

I agree with hintonlady that this is an underhanded way to get people to register!

Ernie and others I agree with you,

I have written to my representatives and have attended many meetings to make it known we are opposed to mandatory premise id, NAIS, and in our case WLIC. I am not standing in the background grumbling, but as a FAMILY we decided we not going participate in showing our animals through 4-h because of their requirements that we are opposed. Sometimes standing up for what you believe in means sacrifices. There are other groups that we can take advantage of for social gatherings. As far as learning we have learned from many area farmers. 4-H is not the only organization that you can learn from. As far as the statement "4-H is about the kids not our own adult agendas." That is the way it should be, I DO NOT Think that is the way it is. And if I do not take a stand on something I believe is wrong and harmful to our country what am I doing for my children.

Has anyone ever heard of civil disobedience?

In our fairs one can participate in boy scouts or girl scouts and still show at the fair. To my knowledge the requirements are imposed by the fair anyway, so for us it does not bypass anything. I could be wrong though.

Most voters are "city folk", and the only real touch they have with the farmer is the show and fair experience, The exhibitors that attend are obviously not going to complain, most will then look at those measures used by the D of A as a normal business necessity. I have all my breeding handouts taged with a NAIS logo and and a caption that reads Support and protect the farmers who protect you. NAIS: a national disease traceback program....Here at ###### Farms we encourage the 3R's of Biosecurity...Risk, Response, and Responsibility

I have recieved many questions about the biosecurity on my farm and the measures are viewed as a value added to my product, The General public appreciated measures they veiw as an added safety step. Many breeders who will potentially shop at a fair will also appreciate the added value of NAIS, the registration and Fair experience is good business, it say clean and professional, winning says quality. That's why many adults spend so much time on 4-H, it teaches animal skills and also business skills....kids should not be kept out of such a valuable tradion and learning tool.

The premise program is mandatory for anyone who ones any livestock in Wisconsin period.
This will be the norm for everyone soon.

I say get use to it since its all soon going to be federal law..AKA all states have to comply.
