They will mark as many points as you want, along any line you want, as long as you are willing to pay them for it. LOL.

If you have a corner pin and know the distances and angles, you can come close with a good GPS. I often mark my snares on a fenceline with a GPS and when I return, it says I am there within a post usually. Some days it will be two posts off. It isn't perfect but it is good, and if you are trying to find a buried pin, it should get you in the neighborhood to start your search. Mark the known pin on your GPS, then head for where you think the other is and let the GPS show you distance and bearing to the known pin.

I took surveying in college. My transit had been donated to the university and was used to survey the Panama Canal construction.
