I paid $700 with papers for Heidi who's 6 right now and she's worth every penny to me. She's a pure bred Belgium Shepherd (Truveren) Chris

No such thing as a free cat or dog--once in the house the $$$ keep adding on.
6 of the 8 were strays. One from the shelter ($85), and one I gave actualy $$ for--$35 for an Engrlish Springer who devoted her life to us for 14 years.

Would you believe I was offered $15,000 for one at a show? when I turned it down, she asked "what about if I doubled it"? told her no again, said I might let hubby or kids go for that, but not my girl

I guess I should say, I just sent an email confirmation to the breeder and then I bought a plane ticket from MN to MD to go pick it up. Guess I'll find out when I get there, lol.
hmm. What's the most $$$ you have ever paid for a dog?
|
Are you seriously saying that you agreed to buy, and bought a plane ticket to go for, a dog without discussing price? When you get there, they'll have you over a barrel because you have come so far already that they can charge you anything!! Please get this ironed out before you go for it. How much trouble can it be to ask the price? I would never consider saying yes to anything without knowing the price first. You must be very wealthy.

I recently paid $800 for my GSD pup Hawke. I was very particular about what I wanted, and so far (he's 4 months old now) he's been worth every penny!

I generally pay $100-$150 for working stock LGDs. Most I ever paid for one was $300 for working stock stud. This is buying as pups. A good LGD is worth every penny and will save you money in losses. An adult trained LGD is worth much more.

We paid $750 for our female GSD. Add on the OFA x-rays and early vet care, and she was bit more. I don't mind paying more for careful breeding. Believe me, my poorly bred rescue GSD has cost far more in the long run when you add up all of the veterinary care for his hip problems.

I paid $300 for a Brittany and $250 for my Irish terrier. Gotten other dogs for free. I think my ceiling would be around $500. Most of the dogs I'll ever get from now on will be from the lb.

nope, not wealthy Mary. But the breeder I am getting the pup from is one of the oldest breeders in the country, I know him by reputation, and I have no reason to think he will gouge (sp) me. I have a pretty good idea of the going rate for puppies and I am pretty confident that his price will be in in with other breeders (I hope. gulp).
Before now the most I paid for a purebred show quality pup was $400, back in the early '80's. My first dog was a $5 mutt from the pet shop when I was 8yo. I loved that $5 dog as much as any dog I have had since, and I had her for 13 years.
WIHH- what happened to the $45k dog?

my opinion is this. dogs are free every where just as pure as you can stand papers and all needing a good home.

I hope you've done your research well.... was reading several months ago where people were buying pigs in a poke.... over the internet...
some paid and never received diddly...
some paid and received diddly (sickly animals)...
I hope this isn't your case.
I've never paid for a dog... and never sold a dog...
I also don't buy or sell humans...

Back in the day when we had the $$$, I bought my husband his beloved red Dobie, Heidi, for $800. Two years afterwards, things went south and we had to find all of our pets a home...including his Heidi But she was blessed enough to go to good and loving home
I had also bought my (ex)husband a Rotti we named Mary Jane . She stayed with my ex husband and recently passed away from cancer at the age of 9 ...
My last few pets? Not a cent--Mr. Kitty, Esq. was a barn kitten from another HT'er
the Aussie Sheperd was free,
the black mutt was a drop-off (angry because someone would do that to a pet...)
and Chewie was a gift for Christmas for my son from another HT'er...

$600 plus shipping for the worst genetic mess of a GSD. Other dogs have run in the $200-350 range. Also have one from the pound ($70 adoption fee) and a freebie from the milk hauler when his Lab had puppies.

Paid $5000 plus $800 shipping for our Male Newfoundland. Had 10 pups from his first litter sold them for $1200 each. After that we decided Newf pups were too much work. Now he is a very expensive guardian for our 3 pygmy goats.
