just wanted to clarify: with my suggestion of getting a dump of broken-up cement I did not mean to have a hidden barrier to snowmobilers - more of a freebie fence/property line which would be absolutely visible, not easily moved, and inexpensive or free.
I would never advocate sabotage nor intentional harm.

I had a similar problem when I was first married. My wife was pregnant and I had a construction job which caused me to be away. People would drive thru our yard at all times of nite. I asked them to stop but didnt help. I took a 2x6 and filled it full of spikes then put it in the grass where it couldnt be seen. Then I dug a big hole to keep them from driving around it. That stopped them after having them to buy 6 tires.
With your situation I would rent a backhoe and dig a ditch along the property line after putting no tresspassing signs up. Have you had the people arrested for tresspassing? I know that will help too. It wont take but a couple of times and they will get the message.

I'm not the most experienced sled rider but I use one for work some times and am able to get mine over all kinds of obstacles like holes, ditches, humps, rocks, river banks, tall sagebrush, coyotes, mountains, lava flows, etc. A fence stops me cold because I would never cut a fence.

I'd say Pete's sense of property is a little different than most... either that or he's just being contrary???
So, the O.P. should let snowmobilers (ATV'rs and dirt bikers too) use their property as they wish but Pete would (all quotes are Pete's from other threads...)
["If one paw of his drops on my land I would drill that dog with a 303 slug so fast it would make your head spin. I've spent a large amount of cash to ensure MY dogs stay on MY property. You should do the same."] shoot a dog on his property.
or
["Neither would I! I' shoot, cut up and eat! What a waste of a perfectly good cow. If I saw a stray cow wandering around my place I would put the sucker in the freezer so fast it would make your head spin! No questions asked, no answers expected."] a cow
or
["If I see a stray cat or dog the old single shot shotgun comes out the FIRST time I see it."] a cat
and
he also doesn't like trespassers
["Yup. A couple mean dogs will deter almost anyone. No one wants to be bit. If your dogs don't work, they aren't mean enough, big enough, or you don't have enough of them."] and ["Buckshot paints the picture in color. The sheriff paints in black and white."]
unless of course they're on a snowmobile, an atv or a dirt bike.
Pete is a dirt biker, he'll take up for the mechanical monster riders because he has something to lose. He thinks the riders should be allowed to use your property as they wish because he wants to do the same. You ain't gonna change a mindset like that.
Note the emphasis on *MY property* in the first quote. Apparently he has a sense of what's his... he just doesn't respect what's yours.

You are dealing with a bunch of trespassers. . . . period.
Talk to the sheriff about this.
I'm very well aware of the do's and don'ts for sledding here in Mich.
I groom trails with the Big Catapiller and the Big John Deer twice a week. All our trails are well marked and regulated by the DNR.
What you have described is not a trail.
Any private land must have a signed lease on record.
We have one person who decided he didn't want sleds going thru his BIG (300acres)potato field . . . . the sheriff is out there often issuing tickets.
What ever you do . . DO NOT put up a single strand of wire accross this area.
The first person who gets big hurt (or decappatated) will have your arse in court and you will lose big time . . .you can bet on that . . . . . . . . .even tho that person was trespassing . . !!!
Another no no is waveing\pointing a gun at those trespassers . . . . . jail time for YOU
Oh ya . . .take a copy of that **map** with you to the sheriff's office............and pictures of any "damage".

I bought my land and if I want to have cattle or sheep or horses or goats, on it and some people wants to ride snowmobiles or dirt bikes or atv or even ride horses across it, does it mean I need to fence a path for them to ride on to be able to keep my animals in? I think not. All you guys that think it is ok to ride where you want haven't had people abuse your land and tear down your fences and let your stock out for which you are then liable for. These threads make my blood boil. If I want people on my land I would put open for what ever signs up instead of no trespassing signs. Then again most of the people riding these machines most likely can't read so the don't obey the signs. Here in WV a no trespassing sign means just that. Here you are susposed to have written permission to be on anothers property or you can be arrested and fined and be held liable for any damage caused. The first year we were here we had a problem with people chasing deer on $ wheelers. It took one trip out from the dnr and word out that there would be no 4 wheelers on our property. That stopped it there and we have had no problem since. We bought a 4 wheeler for me to ride to the top of the mountain to hunt but when I saw what it did to the ground it went for sale. Again if any one doesn't want their land used for others enjoyment at their expense then that is their right. Sam

The map shows a trail leading across the property. The fence line and the posted signs at my property line should mean "dead end".
Sorry to make things overly complex for you.

This post has gone on for how long???
It's only 12 acres.....Get real just fence it and stand - up to them.
I have fence 140 acres sense july and stopped a very serious 4 - Wheeler problem on my land....The 4 wheelers stopped long before the fence was up....
The map is not your problem... it's ranting here and wasting the energy that could stop the problem.... Buy some really good corner posts, 100 t-posts, and 4 rolls of barbed wire and get to work....99% of your riders will then bypass you...Those that don't need to hear clearly that they need to stop. Your not mowing areas just makes you land look like vacant property, make you farm look like something good is going on and they will stop. These guys are not end of the world they are just out having fun....I personally don't want them on me... but I feel If I don't have a good clear fence...I shouldn't complain.

Just who in the world are the "all you guys" that you are referring to?????
I believe the few responsible riders that have posted on this thread all believe that private property rights and landowner desires prevail. I also believe that we all agree on riding on designated offical trails only.
I have no idea where RedneckPete is coming from and I also believe that responsible snowmobilers would not agree with him.

Apparently you missed the part that said it was fenced and they broke it?
