I thought you could refuse embalming AND get by the 24 hour rule as long as the body is frozen? Does that vary from state to state?
The cost of storage until the funeral might be less than the embalming fees.

The 24 hour rule varies from state to state. It may be a law, it may not.

Coming into play is shipping of the body (getting it home), storage of the body, religious beliefs and practices, etc.

Refrigeration may or may not negate the 24 hour rule. Depends on state laws and facility storage abilities.
