My submersible well is a 220V, 1 HP pump and is the two wire version, they didnt say what kind theirs was. There are only two #10 wires running underground through PVC conduit to the pump. It doesn't use a neutral or ground wire at all. As stated previously, I suppose you could operate a lightbulb off one of the 120 legs going to the pump, but there are a bunch of ways to mess up on this and ruin the well pump.

This might be a good time to point out that, if you're building a new home with a well house, be sure to run 3 wire 220 out to the well house. It gives you so many more options.

Some table saws can be wired to operate on 220 volt AC. My saw is 220 volt operational.

You could install a 100 amp, 6-pole, breaker box in the well house on the 220v line that is coming from the main panel box. Then install inside the 100 amp panel box a 2 pole breaker for the pump, and a single pole breaker for a 110v outlet. You would be limited on the amp capacity in the well house panel box. If the cable running from your panel box to your well house is 10 guage then you could have 30 amps of capacity to your new breaker box in the well house. Enough to run the well pump, light, and a small heater if needed. If it's only 12 guage then you would only have 20 amps of capacity to your new panel box. Basically just the pump, light, or a heat lamp.

LOL Don't let this person wire anything in your house, shop or anything that needs electric power. He will burn your house down or electrocute someone. Also thank God for that saw burning up. It could have been someone. I too like to save money where I can, but not if it going to put a person's life on the line. Im sure you did not know of the danger that was there, But now you do. Thats my two cent though.

teach yourself about electronics and electricity

These are PDF format scanned books...... very nice. Just type in the 3 letter security check and download them. No tricks, no pop ups... I promise, just 2 good books.
They will give you a basic working knowledge of how this stuff can kill you or cure you.
lol
