One thing that is not well understood about old tractors is that you pick the gear you want and go from a stop in that gear - you don't change gears while in motion. Not sure if this applies to the 4020 but is for sure true on the old fords.

The 4020 is a nice tractor, did som haybining with one last year. Hope you got the diesel, the gas ones are spec'ed at 9 gallons per hour at full load from what I gather.
We ran bulk oils in all our tractors, one of the local gas stations would fill 5 gal buckets for us quite cheaper than buying it at the implement dealer or farm store.

We had an naa and it was the most worthless tractor on the farm. I think it would just about pull the hay rake. 3 bottoms maybe if you can find an 8" plow.

Them 4020's hold their value pretty well, also. I'm not much of a "greenie" fan, but I see them around here a lot. Seen them go at auction anywhere between $5600 and $8000.
As for an 8N - mine pulls a 2-14 in good, black dirt, with some clay mixed in in spots. I have larger tractors, but the old Ford does more work around here then the others. Everything except loader work (but I DO have a loder for it).

The NAA uses a LOT more fuel to do the same amount of work compared to my
MF 175 diesel. I've been amazed at how much more I can get done with less than half the fuel, even though mine is rated at about 63 HP, compared to 23 for the NAA
