Thanks for all the words of wisdom guys. I really appreciate it. Niether Ray or the girl came back all weekend and I'm feeling a lot more secure with a few days of not seeing him around. I'm hoping my implying I have guns and letting the dog bark out of control in the house put him off some.

I'm going to have to wait a little bit longer to take care of some of the things.....One of my crowns fell out Saturday night (naturally the one in the very front of my face!) and thats not really the impression I wanted to make when introducing myself to the other neighbors and the local PD. "Hi! I'm your new nieghbor from California......and I'm not making fun of Alabama or nothing.....but my front tooth appears to be blacked out!" (it's not blacked out.....it's in a cup in my Kitchen!) I called some Dentists today and hopefully someone can fix it tomorrow. I'll find out what thats gonna cost me and then I'll know what I can spend on the lights, gun and safety classes I want to take.

Meanwhile......
Thanks so much for all the great advise.

I think you may live in my hood....
I see the crackheads in action on a daily basis

see, once the other crackheads find out your a whimpy mark, youll never be safe.

grease one while he is high and robbing you and the others will most liekly never bug you.

I have in laws who are crack heads..... I kinda know how they tick.
the only time any of them ever hurt anyone it was each other and the one guy stabbed the kid fighting with him. Thye used to strea stuff from my brothers house all time.... money, his percsriptions, food... they took his Tv once.

he beat the one kid half to death one night when he caught him in the house and since then they all curb their sticky fingers.

the kid was his son in law......
his friends after that refused to even come with him to my bros house.

of course.... all crack heads are a little different.... so your mileage may vary.

security cameras are cheap and VCRs ar cheap. splurge and get a 60 hour DVR and a nice color outdoor camera at wal mart.

might set you back 200 bucks, but hey so what.

aim the cam at the entry point (down your driveway or wherever people tend to come up on your house)
you might need a set, they sell those too for a little more $$$.

A security tape is as good as an ye witness to the law, at least you have something to peruse.

But a really really desperate crackhead.... kill it. they come back no mater what.

I hate being violent, but lets be practical, you are talking about the security of your home and possibly getting on the 'soft touch" list of the local junkies.

You should buy that girl a nice xmas present for the heads up.

Ive had to put up stockade fences and making very limited entry points, and put 24/7 cams on those.

when I leave the house, I have hidden 8 hour tape decks running, in Technicolor and sound.

even still a crackhead on my porch in my tools will be a dead crackhead. I'm not going to fret over his rights or his soul or his childhood or reforming him.

I'm going to panic, shoot holes in him and the walls, and call 911 an have a proper nervous breakdown.

I'm not proud.... greasing a crackhead will probably screw me up for a long time.

oh well.

and I have a drug dealer 4 doors down.... so ive been giving the issue alot of thought.

I hope for my sake they keep their distance, I have enough aches and pains I dont need PTSD too over a dead crackhead.

We lived next door to a junkie that would shoot up with his friends in a car at the curb opposite our house. He wasn't dealing and his father (whole family lived there) was always really nice so we never called the cops or confronted him. If there was any indication that he'd be a problem we would've gotten involved however. We lived there for 8 years with no problems. The one time we did speak to each other he asked me about my antique car. I pretty much told him never to talk to me. We've moved out of the city since then and my other neighbor says he has died. Apparently he died while out partying and his buddies dropped the body off in the front yard and took off.

girl

Could this girl be casing the place for someone else all the while mentioning "Ray" the thief, so that you would automatically blame him if anything goes missing. Some of todays most brutal crimes are committed by teenage girls.

I've been giving this thread a lot of thought and wonder if the girl was really calling her parents after you invited her to stay for supper. I'd check the phone number that was called when I got the phone bill if I were you. It just doesn't sound normal for a young girl to be walking through the woods like that at night. If the girl had knocked on your door it would have been one thing but the fact that you just happened to see the girl through the window is kind of strange.

I wonder too if the girl and Ray are in cahoots (sp?). I also firmly believe that Ray will take a mile (and 1/2 your possessions) with any inch that you give him. I don't like to be unfriendly either but I would, as you did, make it very clear that your dogs will bite. I always tell even the most trustworthy people that they need to call before they come so I can put my dog away. We have a 195lb english mastiff who makes quite an impression.

I totally agree with the big dogs. Don't let him befriend any of your animals and just let him know that you do not welcome uninvited guests. He can call if he wants to come over but always have a reason for him not to if he calls.

We had that same initial feeling that we were in the boonies and that anyone could do us in and nobody would know. Thing is, although our neighbors are a ways away, they can hear us because its so quiet in the country. Also, we have a very long, steep gravel driveway so you have to be real committed to come to our place. If someone was robbing us and we came home, they would be trapped. When people drive up to the house, we hear them ahead of time and a 195 lb dog runs out barking, looking very intimidating.

I think you'll settle in and feel more comfortable. Just be sure that Ray knows that you are not an easy target. One of our neighbors actually put up a large sign that says "trespassers will be shot"
