Try to train him to "take a picture" of where he put a tool down or used it last. I'm starting to lose my mind, but I can usually trace a lost tool to the last time I used it. If it's still lost, I ask Don, lol. The bright green doesn't always work. My brother in law and I lost a florescent green 100 ft tape while building his 30x50 pole barn. He's more observant than I. We can only surmise it's a fine pad for one of the poles . . . .

Or, depending on the age of his kids, have one tag along and act as an extra set of eyes or the *catcher* if something falls its the child's job to pick it up so it doesn't get lost. My dad used my brother and I like that all the time.

If I worked on a job, showed up on time, did an honest days work and did it well, and lost my boss's tools on a regular basis even after repeated talking too's I think I'd probably get fired.

If he were my son, I'd tell him that I was happy to help him out by giving him sidework and paying him for it, but that he would need to provide his own tools for the job. Or pay for any of mine that he lost out of his wages.
