My extended family is half black, my three grandsons are biracial. Most of the family are homesteaders as defined by countryside magazine, but they call it their life

Most raise and race horses and hunt and raise all their own meat, and have gardens, chickens etc. They also have learned to do without all the trappings that alot of us need. They don't come on to forums to ask basic common sense questions, their great grandfather is alive and living in the original house built a century ago and still running a Bar-B-Q stand. They also with a more simple life have little alshimerze that plagues white families. New land is given to the grandkids as they take wives to build their own places. They go to the same church, spend their money at the same stores, eat at the relatives resturants, and their community helps raise the kids. When you really look at it, it is like the idealistic communes of the 70's, well minus the sex and drugs. I respect them, I wish their knowlege could be shared.
Although half black out here, their are more white women on welfare than black, because of this strong family mentality.
We had great discussion on food storage during the Y2K days....don't you store food anyway Vicki ???
I do agree with the other poster though....Mexican's and Blacks by far have been the friendlest folks I have met since moving to Houston in 1980. But then being a minorty myself in East Texas (a liberal, feminist, woman with a brain she doesn't lease from her husband), perhaps that is why? Vicki
